Yes it's very close and looks great! I still plan on selling it when is done! I know I'll like it a lot but that is still my plan!

Kids are starting back to school soon. I expect to see that saw for some real world testing,i.e.,get it dirty

As deeper I get into 439 as more dissapointed I get.
It's their most pricey lightweight saw, but build quality is very lousy.
Else then ripped intake bellow, I found a few other issues.

They didnt use spacer between the flywheel and coil, distance was zero, so tight that I belive they pressed the coil to the flywheel also.

Cylinder plating look to be low quality. Intake side..exchaust side was nice.

If I got it correct it's a Zenoah enginge, best to unvoid them

Painted the clutch cover ford implement gray and threw on a used 18" I had. I bought a new Zama off of Dave along with some little odds and ends. It started on the fourth pull. It was a good feeling to get her going again. image.jpeg

Nice job! It looks really good. What year do you think that saw is? 1989 maybe?
I've got my dads 036 red lever here and I think he said he bought it brand new in 1989

I'm not sure but I would think that it must be around there somewhere. Besides the incorrect broken handle, the crappy scored aftermarket p/c, and the cardboard gasket it is a really nice and clean saw.

The 036Pro is getting an Oem Piston and cylinder I bought from Bplust. That saw needed a flywheel side seal. I advanced the timing and did a small muffler mod on that one. Collecting parts to finish that one. Waiting for the boredom of winter to finish.

Once completed I'm going to run both against Al's ported 036 to see how it fares. Same bar. Same chain.

I am not really a Stihl guy so excuse a dumb question. Is the 036 a desirable saw? Other than the obvious reasons, nice, reliable etc etc.
reason i ask is i saw one at a local pawn shop today and wondered if i should go back and try to make a deal for it.
