Question for you fellers...can I just run aluminum duct tape on the underside of my Husky 55 top cover above the muff? It's got a small crack in it from heat...just wanna try to avoid it getting worse and ordering a new top cover. They're proud of them damn things. Or do I need to hit an auto parts store and get some insulation type tape?...and if so, what brand is worth a chit? I can add some epoxy or otherwise to help it I suppose. Just don't wanna waste time/money on some tape that'll just peel right off the minute heat hits it.
Do you have a soldering iron with a wide tip? I have plastic welded a few cracked covers.

I do...have this soldering/SMS rework station sitting on my main workbench. Would be a good idea to maybe melt it back together, then run the insulated tape.

It may not be the best way but I melt a deep grove the lenght of the crack. Then Smooth out the high ridges from both sides into the groove. Your setup would work much better to control the heat needed so the plastic doesnt burn.

I only have a plug in iron. I leave it plugged in just long enough to start melting the plastic.

Gotcha...makes sense. Never even gave the soldering station two thoughts to be honest with ya. Great advice.

I think in lieu of the soldering tip, I'm gonna put a very small tip on the end of the heat gun and concentrate it at the crack area, do a little light melting and move it around with a plastic tapered sealant applicator/scraper.

I have a bin full of 371 and 372 parts and plan to get the rest from china and build a saw for my own use with an OEM 371 cylinder.

Will get a meteor single ring piston for it but will report back on the Chinese cases.
I have used the cranks and they work great.

So far my worst experiences with chisese stuff is the chain sprockets.
They rarely fit properly.

I got most of the parts here to build a 272. I'm just waiting to snag a cheap set of cases. I dont think there's any parts you can't buy from china

Don't get your hopes up on too much gear for a 2100

Started putting this old 930 super back together today. It has a little more mag rot than I would like but that's to be expected after living under a brush pile for a number of years.

She has new bearings and seals. Now I have to decide what to use for a piston??

Steve..tell all the crew I said hello on the other site...you know what I mean. Looking like I ain't coming back there no time soon, all because of tangling with one ex-mod POS. Tell all the guys in the grocery cooking threads I said hello if you would, as well as the Good Morning thread. I'd sure appreciate it.
Ok my friend I will.

I miss all those guys...over here in OPE where there's no Political/Religious BS to get tied up in...it's the best site ever. Men talk and cut up about men stuff. Bust the mods asses every now and then, throw 'em a big ol' GFY, and move on to another thread. This OPE site actually runs itself...hardly any turmoil...it's just chainsaw fools talkin to other chainsaw fools. Ya can't beat it. And ya ain't gotta watch the Young and The Restless every day...
