So I bought a Jonsered 2171 with broken cases. The saw is acutally in really rough shape but there are some usable parts on it.
I would like to give porting a go and was hoping to use the cylinder of this saw. It actually looks decent but I saw some small spots in the plating. On the intake side I can feel it ever so slightly, is this something to be worried about? And caused because of fines getting through the carb?

Just could not let this sit in a bucket. Saw has less than and hour run time and owner did not want to put more money into it, just purchased another 592 to replace it. Sent @srcarr52 cracked flywheel side half case for repair, should be back first of this week. Ordered gaskets, aluminum case boltsIMG_9163.JPG IMG_9164.JPG IMG_9165.JPG IMG_9166.JPG IMG_9168.JPG (manual says not to reuse, do not understand torque to spec, then turn 90 degrees, why not just have a torque spec?), new top handle and clutch cover. Guts look very nice, may have to order a new fuel tank, tried welding it and using Locktite hdpe sealant (will see).
Not a cheap repair, but WTH.

Some of you may have felt a shift in the force, I did. Tree service friend was having a hard time finding 540's at local dealer (needed one quick), so someone said (maybe me) try a MS201, saw one in Grayling Ace. He purchased one and I repaired it next day after his climber slammed it into tree, DAMN now he owns two of them. Think his 540 days are now over. What have I done!!!!!

If it was mine, I would say use it. But, I am not a porting person (they will be along), have used cylinders with light vertical marks without a problem. If selling it, I would replace them, but to me yours does not look bad, just clean it up or start porting.

I have a super used 5200 poulan with a similar pock maked cylinder and it runs very well, those Poulan cylinders are pretty much nonexistent so I run it as is, but it runs well.
With a plethora of Jonsred and husqvarna cylinders out there you could pick up one easily and cheap .

Thanks for your replies, sadly in Europe even second hand parts are not that common. A new OEM 50mm cylinder kit costs around USD 400. I think I will just run this one, since it's just a hobby and I don't run it on a daily basis.

I’ll never by another echo with a non-adjustable carburetor and a cat-muffler. If I lived next door to BillG this thing would have been singing before lunch. Won’t hardly run and gets real hot. I suck at this:

390 needed the chain ground, 461 needed a p/v test, turns out it had a leaky decomp so I'll be ordering a new one shortly.

Is that a WaterBong over the bye that...
I'm just kidding Dan!:D

I used to make custom audio cables for a living & would take pics of the finished cables.
Had a tall empty Olive jar with a ink pin in it & someone asked me if it was a waterbong. Hehehe.

People will be searching that photo now! Lol!
