Yeah, but I get along okay without it. I know they're the super saw, but I just didn't like my 346. It was fast but at the time it just felt too damn heavy next to my MS250, so I swapped it off for an 056 Mag II alky saw with a two-piece head. I've never regretted it. I'm just happy this husky is all one color and not salmon pink like some of the early ones.

Put the 346 top end on the 350.

Nope. I'm a cheap bastard, if it ain't broke I'm not touching it. The current top end has removable transfer covers, which I don't recall seeing on the other early 350 I saw, so I'm not sure what top end it has on it. I'll have to mic the bore and check back.

Ahhh that's the mushroom you were talking about? Hell and I called Kenny to find out what you were saying!
I’m guessing Kenny knew exactly what you were talking about? And at the same time he knew absolutely nothing about it?

Got my neighbor's Poulan 2900 finished up and it runs great. Pretty strong saw actually. Carb rebuild kit and new fuel line. After first start I noticed the oil pump wasn't working. I flushed the tank, it had sludge in the bottom I didn't see before. Ended up taking the oil pump apart and it's frozen up and burned the plastic gear. No big deal they are 8 bucks on ebay.

He's going to have a nice saw for very little parts invested. I'm happy/ proud about it!

Awright, enough of all this. I double-checked, it has a newer 353 top end with the removable transfer covers so I think it'll be a good test mule for me to try porting. All you 346 lovers can GFY, they just didn't float my boat at the time. Maybe I'd think differently now, Idk. On a lighter note, it has some sort of case heat shield on it which I've never seen before on either the 353, 350, or 346's I've fiddled with. The piston looks decent and the saw feels like it has decent compression, but I'll still get it a new piston just because.

The early 350s had the open port cylinder. Later ones used the same cylinder as a 353 with screw on caps but the 350 used a dished piston, where the 353 was flat

Mine's an 03 Air Injection model, black coil, open muff, etc. The only other 350 I saw like mine (an 01, I think), had the open port cylinder. Do you think mine came with this top end originally or is it a later replacement?

I don’t know what year the change was made. But I had a 350 here with the open port and a later one that had the other cylinder

Btw - A clutch tool from my motocross days came in handy with this poulan. First saw I have come across with a clutch you needed a tool like this too remove. The last time I used this tool was probably 10 years ago, glad I kept up with it.

Update on the 036. Just made a few cuts with it and the rings are starting to seat. Compression went up a little more. So base gasket delete and hyway popup piston so far has taken me from 142-180psi compression. Saw needs some carb tuning and has a little stumble to it, I will try and get video later. Pulls over strong and will actually kick back if I’m not committed…just how I like my saws to be! 7F753E95-FFD0-4F37-8C61-DF5012654DA6.jpegAD2D3B59-174C-44E4-BB0D-DF09EE779085.jpeg

I have a 353 that had a dished piston,, swapped it out for flat.
What a difference!!
