Anyone know what model this SHIN DAIWA is. Coworker brought it to me. Very rough but piston and cylinder look ok through exhaust port. View attachment 320738View attachment 320739View attachment 320740View attachment 320742View attachment 320743
Either way it's a winner. There is still a following with that saw. Thanks bud, I may see what all it needs and figure something out. Or I may just part it out.

It won’t matter if it’s an XP cylinder. You’re just gaining some case capacity. If it’s as xtorq, it’s actually free porting the stratos at bottom dead center. I’ve done it before intentionally and they ran pretty good. But in the name of trying to keep some of the xtorq fuel efficiency, I don’t do it that way any longer.2 questions regarding my 2171W build.
#1 someone along the way cut the cylinder extensions to roughly .050 from flush with the base. I know there is some debate but how will that affect performance?
#2 is a 268 pop up worth it?
It's an xp, I have both Pistons here so I just thought I'd ask.It won’t matter if it’s an XP cylinder. You’re just gaining some case capacity. Never tried a 268 piston. I like the skirts on the regular 372 piston better
I've only used the 268 closed sided pistons and they give a nice compression bump, I have two in saws now.2 questions regarding my 2171W build.

If you decide to put that girl together here may be a parts source on the other site.Lol. I was hoping maybe an 80+cc but another 70 cc isn’t bad I reckon

He goes by alderman. His name is Rich and he is a heavy duty Shindaiwa guy for sure. If I remember correctly he is in Oregon.
Did that originally have just the single little pencil hole for an outlet like my 2007 440. I noticed some had the single little hole with deflector and then another slit nearby and was wondering if that was an update to let the saw at least breathe. Maybe Stihl decided they went too far and added the slit? I am going to ask my dealer cause they have the updates on their computer system. Mine burns lean even with the hi.limiter out to the rich max...do not see how it could be run any other way without lean burning the piston up. That little pencil hole reduced even further by the screen is tiny.
I contacted my Stihl dealer parts Dept. They had the single small hole version as OEM for the serial # chainsaw I have. The small hole with the slit version was Stihl's USA dual port option and listed on his computer as discontinued. My 440 kit saw came with dual port 100% open muffler and no spark arrest. I keep finding myself cutting in neighborhoods, so I picked up an oem 460 muffler. Has internal deflector, the small hole with slit and spark screen. Saw is a lot quieter, runs about the same because I deleted base gasket as well. Squish from .0450 to .0200.
Sharpie marks are where I was thinking about adding a slit and opening up exit port.

Nice!! I did contact the Stihl dealer out of curiosity of the two OEM mufflers...the single small hole vs the small hole with slot. The single small hole was stock on the serial # Stihl Magnum 440 I own. The small hole with a slit OEM muffler was Stihl's USA dual port option for my saw and the parts guy said it listed as discontinued.
