Nice. I don't really understand the advantages/disadvantages of the 3pt and 4pt spikes.
Can anyone enlighten me please?
I'm not sure which 3-point spikes you're referring to (WCS?), but I put on the 4-point spikes because I fell in love with that pattern when I first saw them on an 056. Plus, the saw was missing the dogs when I got it. I also like the 4 points because they have more bite and I like how/where the contact the log while I'm cutting. @CLEARCUT or @HYPERSAWS would be better suited to school us on dog advantages/disadvantages, however.

So, I was going to wait to fire the 357 posted above... Who am I kidding? I couldn't wait any longer... I fueled it up, dumped the motor oil from the tank and added fresh bar oil. Six pulls and it coughed.. another pull and it fired right up. It sounds awesome, and that modded muffler has a bit of a bark to it!

I'm a happy camper, and I'd like to thank the gent I got the crankcase and some parts from (he knows who he is,) and all the folks here who inspired me, helped me, and taught me along the way...

It feels like a real accomplishment!

I see loggers switching from the 4pt to the 3pt spikes. Just curious to hear the pros and cons of each set.
Yes I was referring to the WC spikes.

There's a review thread on here about them recently, but for the life of me I can't remember who started it.
The theory is that once you pivot past the bottom spike in your cut you can take advantage of more bar length and it'll be less grabby.

I think of it as a fulcrum .
The lower the spike is from the chain the more grabby it will be.
The closer the spike is from the chain, it will not be as grabby.(all this dependeding on your rykers).
The further the spike is from the case the less case rub you will get on Root flared timber

Cool. But what about those 3 point spikes with the missing spike 2nd from top? What does that missing spike do?

A friend hooked me up with a Wilton PowerArm that has turned out great as a saw vice.

I rigged up an old artillery round crate as a cleaning booth and got a real bench grinder.

There’s an 020t crowding the 034s. Needs rings and a clutch rebuild.

Back in the shop, my brother's 395 briefly hit the bench. The chain was dull (there's a reason I give him chipper chains), the saw was dirty from riding in and out of a dusty hellhole in the bed of a truck several times, and my brother swore it was making a metallic "vibration-y" sort of noise. I blew/scraped the dirt and saw dust off of the saw and when I checked all of the accessible fasteners I found a few loose ones here and there, but nothing that seemed loose enough to vibrate. The chain is an Archer full-comp chipper chain and to be honest, I think it sucks because it is very slow cutting and "meh". Today I ground all the cutters to a consistent length and dropped a few of the rakers that were too tall to a similar height, so I'm hoping it will cut better.

Pics of what's on my bench. In order, the 350 jug when I pulled it, the problem, my 461 carb sans limiters, and fixing my pretty-looking but damaged wide discharge Stihl clutch cover. I have a nice, new (I peeled the sticker off personally) wide discharge cover on my 461 currently, but it's too nice compared to how the rest of the saw looks so I'll run the older cover instead.

I've been following your 350 saga with interest mate, I have a box of 3 or 4 part saws here to make into one or more actual saws. First use of my mityvac and it probably just paid for itself, but I couldn't pump into the second saw at all so I wonder if I have a crook impulse like you found.
