The latest victim was another weed wacker .This time an Echo GT1100 ,21 cc ,little pup but did okay with a blade head .Fuel lines, filter .This time I had a carb rebuild kit on hand and found it on the first try, amazing . Bad thing is the primer bulb blew out on the first try but started with a prime .It's the larger bulb and all I had was the smaller .10 of them are in route as I type .Should be here next Wednesday .
Now there's an old trick here .Sometimes for some reason the mags won't fire on a tug,. If you can wind them up with a drill motor often times they fire right up .Learned that little ditty decades ago on Briggs and Stratton lawn mowers .

The drill motor trick works well on the old magneto ignitions but often are not fast enuf for the new ones.

I made a drive adapter for the dog type starter (Homie, Lombard, Poulan, McCulloch etc.).

I should invent one for Stihl if only to verify oil pump function. [emoji848]

Tip: Don’t use it to actually start a powerhead you’ve chucked in the bench vice. The vibrations will send top contents to the floor. [emoji23]

Like a dumb-a--- I tried to crank up a 90 odd cc Sears gear drive using a drill motor and a ratchet adapter .My thought was the ratcket would keep from unscrewing the flywheel nut .It did not work and it spun the flywheel off .Now that was a Power Products AH 58 engine which has a hefty fly wheel which orbited my garage nearly hitting my wife's Cadillac had me on the floor ducking for my life . In short it's not a good idea . BTW I never did find the nut .

I'm not certain exactly how fast you have to rotate the average chainsaw over but on a Briggs solid state ignition it takes the equivalent of 600 RPM to get fire . It doesn't take much on one of my Stihl 038 mags which tried to pull good ole Freds ( Stihl Boy ) arm off .
Back when I was a kid my dad's old walk behind garden tractor would loose fire after it had sat all winter .He would belt that thing up to a reel lawn mower engine and rolled it over at about 3000 RPM .It would start then .Only had to do it once and afterwards you could rope start it .All I can figure out is it must have something to do with the residual magnetism in the coil .
I had another weed wacker that would loose magnetism in one of the fly wheel magnets .I stroked the weak mag with a rare earth magnet and then it would fire and again only did it once at the beginning of weed wacking season . I'll just say this about mag ignition systems I know more than the average bear but I don't know everything .I can't explain this one .

Painted the new flex pipe for the Escape which I'll install next week. A buddy of mine is letting me use his lift.

Tomorrow after work I'm installing the battery maintainer on the new mower since I probably won't run it much more till spring. Already stabilized the fuel before I chopped up leaves last weekend. Also need to prep saws for Sunday. Just need to fill them with fuel and oil, mix up another can of 40:1 and put my saw tool box together with carb screwdrivers, a scrench, PPE, and wedges.

Waiting for parts for other jobs so I'm taking a break from side work for a little bit.

Had enough daylight left to cut a leaner that had been bothering me for a while...
I was almost all the way through the felling cut and the saw stopped feeding and wouldn't cut.
Base was hollow and full of dirt, rot and a rock. Every cutter on both sides has a "notch" in the middle. Pic is after 8 passes with a file.

Got bored waiting for dinner to arrive so I installed the battery maintainer. Purposely made it lay on the seat so I don't drive off with it plugged in.
