Look at the end of the part that the rim sprocket slides over to see the difference of how drive is taken to the oil pump.View attachment 24407 View attachment 24408
I've seen the tooth grip on 42, same system as used on 254/261/262.
I am not so familiar with 42/242 anymore, dont see them here nowadays. Seems all those nice 2xx is about to dry out :(

Have a couple of those drums that fit 254 and 262 that i bought thinking I was getting what i wanted for the 42-242 saws :(...Lesson learned ..dont trust a pic ..trust a part number !
One is a 22mm drive (19mm normally here) that i have a 9 pin rim to fit ! that was silly fast for limb work on my 254 that was worked over .

Been keeping a eye on the mail for the first after market carb iv bought to get here for this 024 av to see if the upgrade to a WT 194-1 from a Tillotson HU 54f helps with the idle stability and low end tuning. Yup !! it has and im also impressed with the build of the carb so iv ordered another for stock and to act as a "Known Working Carb" to isolate issues with these little critters in the future.

028 avs has had new clutch springs on its way to being prepared for sale ...like the polished Stihl bar with embossed logo it has. Getting the long clutch needle roller bearings is really difficult over here ...plenty in the US but you can guess the postage is a Big Gulp . looking into using 2 individual cages to make up the length of the long single one.
Just in case anyone is interested ...028 avs clutch drum needle roller bearings . If you or having trouble getting the long duel "10x13x23 mm" one then two "10x13x10" for the 024 -026-MS 260 will get you out of a hole. I cut off the duff part of the long cage and then stacked a new 10x13x10 cage on the crank ,this did give me the 23mm overall length of the long duel one but two 10mm cages would work in a pinch.Screen Shot 2016-06-11 at 14.39.02.png

262 wasnt so populare in Norway, 254 though was super populare in it's time. I've always loved 254, fancy those different jug options they had in their time, have saved a special jug for my last build ;)
