Exhaust ports are super clean. May be it's the way y'all tune your saws. Back when I had my grandads 1964 Mac it spent most of its life with leaded gas and a SAE 30 oil mix with no carbon build up on the exhaust port. It was used for pulpwooding, logging and firewood. It finally died of case fractures. Not engine failure. Wish I still had the beast. When I parted it out. The engine was cleaner than anything I have seen in a modern saw.

How come no one jumps on Husky, Poulan, or echo oil. Several folks have to pull that Jaso rating out there butt. It ain't made for a motor cycle, scooter, moped or super charged wheel chair for your grandmaw. It is Outdoor power equipment 2 cycle oil. And Stihl doubled the warranty by using and the purchase of it. Not the purchase of Motul super bike oil. Come on guys I cut wood with it and have been using it in my Partner and Poulan Pro saws over the last couple of years. Not riding it to work.
The reason I use racing oil is more protection/film strength in my ported saws. Ported saws run at higher rpms, more torque, and more compression. Motul 800 has double the viscosity as stihl ultra. And 800 is cheaper per ounce than stihl ultra. With stihl ultra, you're paying more for less quality. You're paying ribeye prices for weenies.

I run Husqvarna XP oil at 40:1 in all my 2 cycle OPE. Why is it that I don't see many others running it? Is it a sufficient oil?
It's good oil. It's more than sufficient. And when you buy a new Husky you purchase the XP oil or fuel mix they extend the warranty. Stihl does the same with Ultra HP or Motomix. They won't sell you something that will cost them money with warranty work. And they are excellent products.

i ran half fat tunes anyway so carbon buildup or clogged exhaust ports are not a problem but some of my stuff has gooey mufflers.

You have a good point here but there are way better oils for less money than Stihl Ultra.

But you are correct some oils are way overkill for OPE.

OK I've read this thread from the beginning. I've learned a few thing along the way, but still have some questions. I had been running Stihl ultra at about 45:1, but didn't like the smell so I switched to 800t at 36:1 after reading some other oil threads on AS. I love that the 800t has no real smell and no smoke, but I had to tune it to less than factory rpms get it to 4 stroke like I wanted in my ms261.

So after reading this thread I'm thinking of trying Yamalube 2r at 32:1. Would this be a good safe choice for everything from a small weedeater up to a ported ms460? How's the smell of the Yamalube and will it leave a sufficient amount of oil for the bottom end of my stratosphere ms261?

That's what I'm looking for... something I can run in everything I have.

You can always justify another saw.

I've ran several gallons of ultra. It stinks bad and burns too dirty for me. I've switched to Maxima k2. No stink and less smoke. I considered 800t, but it's high flash point kinda scared me off, especially for weedeaters.
Yamalube should be fine for your use.
