Stihl ultra is Jaso-FB rated which is the lowest certification of 2-cycle oils. Jaso-FD is the highest rating like Motul 710.

To be officially "FD" certified it has to be a "FD" in a square symbol on the bottle. A lot of manufacturers "claim" to meet certification but haven't went through accreditation. No square symbol with FD in it.....it's not certified. Look at the front of the Motul 710 bottle picture I posted. It has been through JASO accreditation and shows the square symbol with the FD inside. You can verify that by reading the JASO and ISO accreditation standard methods.

I run Husqvarna XP oil at 40:1 in all my 2 cycle OPE. Why is it that I don't see many others running it? Is it a sufficient oil?

FD oils are old had, not up to par, vintage oils of yesteryear. Now I always insist on using an oil that 'exceeds FD standards', exceeding expectations giving me better than FD results and clean lubricating properties. Next time you choose an oil, don't settle for the common certified FD, make sure your oil exceeds the certification, even if its not certified. Even JASO itself knows they are out of date, they won't tell you a list of oils that exceed their ratings, that would be embarrassing, you must find them yourself in close out bins and discount stores by blenders that you may never heard of. :sisi1:roto2nuse:

When my buddy,KG461, and I started researching oils several years ago we noticed none of the racing 2T oils we wanted to try were certified. They only said "exceeds JASO requirements". I've used a few FD chainsaw oils but they didn't equal the racing oils in lubrication. I've been only using Motul 800 off-road the last three years in all my saws. Most are ported. I have some Motul 710 I'm going to try soon.

It has a high film strength/viscosity, over 10, for a chainsaw oil.
Edit: I meant an oil not marketed as a racing oil. Racing oils, like Motul and Klotz, have viscosities 15-20+.

How come no one jumps on Husky, Poulan, or echo oil. Several folks have to pull that Jaso rating out there butt. It ain't made for a motor cycle, scooter, moped or super charged wheel chair for your grandmaw. It is Outdoor power equipment 2 cycle oil. And Stihl doubled the warranty by using and the purchase of it. Not the purchase of Motul super bike oil. Come on guys I cut wood with it and have been using it in my Partner and Poulan Pro saws over the last couple of years. Not riding it to work.

And trimmed several acers over and over with out a failure. And since it was made for OPE. Why would Stihl have to pay Santa Bauma for the extra certification fee. Not EPA power sports.

That's why we've pretty much all said if you're happy with an oil you've been using, keep using it. Ultra is just a dirty burning oil. It leaves a lot of carbon behind. That's the "fb" certification. Fc and fd are cleaner, that's all. And most of these guys are actively searching for an oil that's clean and doesn't leave a bad carbon buildup.

It ain't dirty at all. I was running Husqvarna LS for years. And the Poulan Pro 40:1. Had carbon build up from there use. Started running the Stihl Ultra. On my 32 year old Partner it started cleaning the top of the piston explain that. It's great oil.

That's not typical. Usually it leaves a buildup on top of the piston and a hard flakey carbon in the exhaust port.
