90 kawasaki 550sx pp motor and 94 superjet fx1 701. Both modded much the same. Both run weisco pistons and bit have been running the same oils. Both are showing bore taper issues. The taper stops right at bdc right at where rings stop. I'm guessing the Rings are either too hard, the cross hatch is too coarse @320 or the high compression is pushing the Rings too hard into the bore causing this accelated wear. Alot of guys don't tear down this frequently and run them till they blow. So I wonder if they would hit this level of taper and then stop wearing worse for awhile. Pistons are literally perfect and I wouldn't even think of changing them if I didn't need to go oversize to fix the bore.

On a oil topic I just noticed my order of 4 gallons of mystic has 2 mystic sea and snow and 2 citgo sea and snow. I wonder if they really are the same? The citgo says nothing about injector comparable or not.

I got some Yamalube 2R just to compare to the Amsoil Saber at some point . I bought a Yamaha 650 and flipped it a while ago and it came with some bottles of Yamalube 10W50 that the nearby dealer was good enough to exchange for the 2R :D

Couldn't use the 10W50 in the Sportster so why keep it .

Wonder if it's any good? I would consider it for sure.
I have heard it is the same as dolmar synthetic and I really like it. Granted I only have 6 months of use which is like 15-20 gallons. So like a week's worth for some guys.
But seems to leave a good bit of oil on the piston, it burns clean and the smell is not too bad. The most important part is it is cool blue!

The ring rings causing that wear pattern is possible. Sea and snow should provide for less wear vs a marine oil so it might solvents your problem.
What does sea and snow cost per gallon now. Around 2001 I was buying it for something like 8 bucks a gallon.

I bought it shipped to my door for I think $85 for 4 gallons. But I can buy at at a store for $18.xx I think. I sure hope I can get more life out of the topends on these machines. I was happy as hell when I stopped busting up or collapsing pistons when I went with weisco. Then I started seeing taper and was pissed again. Thanks to all who has helped lead this stubborn horse to some better water. I have been in contact with weisco about this issue and was told they do use a harder ring then stock. I for some reason think they said some sort of chrome molly but not certain. And said they did have a higher tension also. So maybe better oil and I may try some RIK rings and see what happens.
