I wear a paper mask when cutting dry stuff.
My bil recently went through the same terrifying scenario. After months of dicking around poking and prodding, scanning and x-raying they finally went in with a great big needle and took a sample. Turned out to be a fungus, most likely caused from inhaling the dust in his chicken coop.I should wear a mask but I usually don't. Usually the breeze is taking the dust away from the operator's position and we're gonna put up a big azz fan once we get the shed completed. We have a roof over it at least and siding started on the sugar shack end. Unfortunately I don't get as much mill time as I would like. Retirement is looming soon and I'm hoping to get more saw and mill time in...
I did end up with a lung fungus caused by sawdust many years ago. That was a scare... Chest x-ray just saw it as lumps. I was pretty bummed for a couple weeks till other scans ruled out the C thing... I had never heard of a lung fungus before that. I had a dump truck back then and a local lady would have me deliver sawdust to her show arena and stables from a local woodworking shop (a big shop). Sometimes a couple loads a week. Once the doc figured out what was going on, I never hauled that anymore. Poor horses...

Yep, we've pressure washed gazillion of sawlogs, it's very helpful if you do it like you really mean it.Im thinking it would be beneficial to blade life
To hose down / pressure watch each log before milling ….
Very similar.Looks like spalted maple
I always see that just after installing a brand new blade..
Got into some iron deposits today.....

Bought a cheap metal detector to eliminate some of the iron deposits.

I knew it was there....told him I don't saw nails for free, and I ran blades that were about to break, so no problem really.I always see that just after installing a brand new blade.
Those work good and can pay for themselves pretty quick if a guy is cutting farm trees.Bought a cheap metal detector to eliminate some of the iron deposits
