Have you fellas tried bi-metal bands? I see there’s a few options for them around, online. I would think they would hold an edge much longer than a standard band.

So far my favorite blade is a woodmizer silver tip with hardened teeth

I don’t like this thread……I had talked myself out of a sawmill right before C19 and then prices went up. I’m still a little salty about it, lol. I’ll get one, eventually.

Welcome @geslayton.
I actually bought my first one because of C19. My wife wanted to finish our basement with pine siding instead of Sheetrock and for the price of lumber at the time, I bought a small manual mill (woodland mills hm126). Things escalated quickly and I found a lightly used partially hydraulic LT35 and haven’t looked back!

I have an hm126 I made a trailer for and it’s all I’ll ever need has the 14 hp upgrade ect.

I don't see myself ever needed more than the 122. I recently bought another extension. They advertise it as a half extension. I believe with it we can cut up to 19' now.

My 126 had the 14hp and trailer. It was a great saw, I just got tired of manually rolling my logs. I will say, the extra horsepower om the Woodmizer is also nice in those wider cuts.

Probably been asked before but… what do yall do when you mill as far as wearing a mask or preventing dust inhalation?

My band mill ejects opposing side of operator station and with the water/pinsol mix running to lube the blade and cut pitch I don’t really have a lot of dust issues with green wood. Resawing dry slabs or planks it makes some the I wear a paper dust mask.

I should wear a mask but I usually don't. Usually the breeze is taking the dust away from the operator's position and we're gonna put up a big azz fan once we get the shed completed. We have a roof over it at least and siding started on the sugar shack end. Unfortunately I don't get as much mill time as I would like. Retirement is looming soon and I'm hoping to get more saw and mill time in...

I did end up with a lung fungus caused by sawdust many years ago. That was a scare... Chest x-ray just saw it as lumps. I was pretty bummed for a couple weeks till other scans ruled out the C thing... I had never heard of a lung fungus before that. I had a dump truck back then and a local lady would have me deliver sawdust to her show arena and stables from a local woodworking shop (a big shop). Sometimes a couple loads a week. Once the doc figured out what was going on, I never hauled that anymore. Poor horses...

If i chainsaw mill i wear a respirator more so because of the fumes.
i dont wear anything on the bandsaw mill. But i am tending to see a lot of saw dust even though it ejects it out the opposite side. Maybe because the sun is hitting it just right IDK

But it sounds like i just have to worry about lung fungus not cancer lol….
