We’ve been eyeballing a local mill for work. It’s a Woodmizer, but a manual smaller mill. It would be used for shed building lumber and such around here. I believe it is a LT15 with extended bed. A local guy bought it to build a barn and now wants to move it along. It only has 85 hours on it or so.

Sometimes when I have a dirty log and a mostly dull blade....

I'll take a slab off all four sides, then turn it 45° and whack the corners off to get rid of the grit....then I can put a fresh blade on and make lumber.👍
Especially useful on bigger wood where you need a good sharp blade for the wide cuts getting it down to cant size. 20240109_151039.jpg

I'll move the blade up and down to follow the contour of the log, so as not to lose any yield...

Sometimes if I have only a bit of wane on the corners I'll just use a chainsaw and clean it up that way.....

I've been looking at a debarker for a chainsaw.
I have one....of the log-wizard variety.

They work pretty okay....kinda.
Blades get dull fast on real dirty logs, and of course it doesn't work well at all after it's dull.
It's surprisingly heavy and kills my left elbow holding it up.
It kinda has a mind of it's own as far as controlling where it goes on the log.
Makes a gimongus mess.
Doesn't work very well on dead dry oak bark.
Works very well on live/fresh pine bark.
Doesn't work well on very thick bark.
It's great for logs that have just a few dirty spots.
It's currently mounted on an old 026 that requires 30 pulls to start....but that's my fault.

Bottom line is, I should probably use it more than I do...
