Poplar, building a shelter for my wife’s goats.
I got some oak siting there to saw up as well.
first log I cut (picture attached) I think was a younger poplar. It at least smells like it….
👍
Poplar saws like butter.....oak, not so much.

What kind of goats ya got?

You don’t think those cement blocks will do the trick?

I used 40" long 6x6 posts set in cement with about a foot out of the ground, then bolted a 5 x 7 poplar beam to the top of the posts. Then I bolted the feet of the mill tracks to the beam. I've sawn 24" x 14' logs on it without having it move.

Set it solid and you'll make fine straight lumber for years to come.

Yeah, I know. Just 28 pet goats. Gives us something to do. Grand child is going to love them.
Goats bring pretty good money around here. Considering that they multiply rather quickly, I wonder if they would be a better investment than cattle sometimes.

I have made a small fortune with goats, of course I started with a larger fortune.

Sawed up a nice 12' white oak today.

Broke it down into 3 big chunks then resawed em into boards.
This way I'm not making so many real wide cuts, and will have less wavy lumber.

Got a few nice clear 1x12s.
