E free is $4.49 for 92 and $4.10 for 87. It's not easy to get as very, very few places sell it. I'd say here in town each Station that has it is 15 - 20 miles apart. Nowhere out of town I know of. Other than airports or marinas, it's not available, thus the high prices.

You know a marina is not a place I ever considered but that is a great idea. As I have said I have no issues finding it here but those who do could use your advice and check out a marina. I live right on the Mississippi and we have gas docks about ever 15-30 miles. My uncles ran the Fairport IA one for years but I have no idea what fuel they had

So what is the reason behind only selling fuel to pilots? I would think they would sell fuel to anyone with money to pay.

A scared kid following homeland security threats. Please take no offense (i will get flamed for this) but remember you are in Cali

They might get in trouble for selling non taxed fuel that could be used in autos.

That could be but highly doubtful as the price is MUCH higher than auto fuel. Now if you were referencing off road diesel which available at the pump here I would fully agree with you. For years guys ran the risk of getting caught avoiding the road use tax

So what is your diesel price then if gas is that high

Yeah I've seen a few grass runways in people's back yards with experimental planes. I remember a guy that built a gyrocopter that would come to the airport and try and fly it. It would mess up in some way, so he would take it back home work on it for like 6 months and then try again lol.......

Well here grass runways are very common. They are used frequently.

When I was living down in in Bushnell IL the Runyan family operated the Bushnell airport. It was all grass. The mother and father were commercial pilots. One son was attending SIU and flew back and forth on the weekends. It looks like they still operate the airport

If you go a few miles south to Macomb Il the airport there I believe still uses grass

Another neighbor over the valleys\ headed up John Deere's aviation out of Moline Il. He still flew many of his personal flights off his private grass runway

I've noticed that soybean prices have dropped and the soy bean crop is supposed to be huge this year, based on farm planting strategies. One has to wonder if that could lower or stabilize soy diesel fuel prices as well. Just talkin' out loud.

That is a bio-fuel that has a completely different set of problems. It clearly is not practical for use in any tank that does not get cycled through. If it sits for any length of time algae will form.

As for bean prices that will be interesting to see. There is no way to predict the crop size no matter what the experts say. Folks do not tell crop reporters their true intentions on purpose. Now flash forward to June 15 and then the true acreage will be much clearer. If we have a cold wet spring the bean acres will increase. If we get a nice spring they could be lower than the experts think. If the pollinator program continues there is no reason to plant any acres

I figured as much. I recall a few left wing rock band groups insisting that their bus be running on soy diesel. Didn't a few marine enthusiasts try it in the diesels pushing their big yachts? Anyway, you don't hear much about it anymore. We can get ordinary diesel here for $2.20 a gallon, cash and carry.

Long range weather forecasts are hopelessly inaccurate. Oh, and BTW, LOML again picked up 18 eggs for a buck this past week. She makes a good egg salad.

I am still a firm believer that alternative fuels have their place but bio diesel should never be ran in anything that sits. It will grow algae. In a bus it should not pose a huge problem but who knows. Those bands may have spent a lot of time sitting smoking another bio product.....

I will give you a real life experience with bio diesel and algae. About 15 years ago I was bringing the combine up the big hill. The big hill is a long steep narrow hill that goes up the Mississippi river bluff. It was well after dark and I just wanted to get it home. Near the top she starts to lose power, sputters and dies. Well with no engine there is NOTHING. No steering, no brakes. The backwards trek begins. I muscle the wheel enough and get it jackknifed against the bank. If it would have occurred 600 ft down the hill it would have ended worse. The darn fuel filters were 100% clogged with algae

Regular ethanol gas isn't that high and is $2.65 - $3.07, Diesel $2.13 - $2.65 most is at $2.49

I do not know what pump diesel is now. I know standard gas is $2.21 in Iowa. Illinois is probably higher

Biodiesel doesn't work well I the cold either. Our fleet of city busses went from running 20% down to 5% and now zero as filter maintained is too costly. In my own truck, I never had black fuel filters until I ran just one tank of 99%. The filters looked clear like new at 100k. Just one tank and now the are always black no matter what.

The Biodiesel is washed with caustic soda creating formaldihydes. Not so healthy as it leaves brown clouds that hang in the air where the black petrodiesel clouds fall to the ground safely as carbon. Veggie oil is good and safe as long as you filter well and start and shut down on petrodiesel. Otherwise you polymerize the rings.

E0 is still 2.83 here but it is well worth it for me even if it was 3.00 per gallon.
no spark knock or bucking compared to E10 sold at the pump for 2.29

I will not defend soy-diesel based on storage but if you feel that home brew veggie chit is good just let it sit................... That is the worse looking animal fat I have ever seen

got to add a chemical to veggie oil to remove the glycerin that will get you away from the problems.
Rudolf diesel invented his engine to run on rape seed oil.

In 2008 there was a gentleman from Saskatchewan who wanted to buy a load of saws from me. He made the 2500 mile round trip in a Volkswagen diesel truck and brewed his own fuel. When he got here we filled his truck with saws and he did not have room to take all of his empty 5gal fuel buckets back with him. He left them here. Some time passed by and one day I decided to pry the lids off and use the buckets. I wish I would have taken a picture of that white goo that was in the bottom of the buckets. Now obviously his fuel works for him as he drives hundreds of thousands of miles on it without a proplem
