Yea, I've read that Maples also hybridize, and I've had some that really stumped me. A Black Maple leaf looks more like a Red Maple leaf, but the wood is harder than Sugar Maple. So, if a Black crosses with a Red … ??? AAAAHHHHH!!!! FYI, gym floors and bowling alley floors are generally made from Black Maple.
We also have a lot of Norway Maples around here, choking out the Sugar Maples in their normal range. No doubt it is due to our proximity to NYC. (They planted Norway's in NYC because they were supposed to be blight resistant, and then they got hit with a blight!)
