Really Doc,
Modified in such a manner, it increases the velocity of the port. Which enhances the draw through the motor, allowing it to run more efficiently.
I didn't spend the money for a plasma cutter to go slower.
Saw runs better, job goes smoother, where am I going wrong here?
Does the same science apply on birdcage (not slr) Dolkitas Mr Shot?

If you guys say it works as a torque tube, I get it.

Saying it helps keep muffler rigidity, in this case, makes little to no sense to me.

Many later Stihl mufflers came with open cans. Unlike some other brand mufflers, they mount directly to the exhaust flange of the cylinder and also to the case via the bottom bolts. Granted, the newer open style cans tend to have a pressed in flange to aid in stiffness where it connects to the jug, but I only see that possibly aiding in sealing at the flange. When we are opening the can with a deflector for more flow, the gasses will take the path of least resistance and flow out the huge deflector.

Other than sealing the exhaust flange and/of adding some torque by extending ex port length, I don’t see how leaving the baffle in helps. Even with the new open muffler can designs, most of us grind out the increased rigidity of the flange anyway to make it match the port.

For what it's worth with a stock Aussie ms660 I removed the baffle on the internet's advice is a must do mod apparently?? anyways it made the saw a very LOUD gutless turd yes it lost torque.
Saw was running .404 7pin bucking very hard Aussie hardwoods so any loss in torque was very noticeable.
It might work on a stock choked up US ms660 but can say in my experience a stock Aussie ms660 did not like this mod.

The original flat style fuel cap had a crack in it and the seal was shot. I had obtained a newer 066, I think, cap. Seeing the tether was different and no provision for it in my old tank, I modified it..

I took the link closest to the spring retainer and pried it open.

And pinched it around the ferrule on the not clapped out cap

And I now have a cap that stays with the saw vs falling in the dirt.
It ended up slightly longer then the original. 20231203_134658.jpg20231203_134709.jpg

Is that a front cover for the 046 series saws?
Yes, the one in my post is for a 046. I just finished putting it back together after taking it apart for a deep clean (super muddy, found at the dump). Have not had a chance to fire it up yet, but with new rings, it seems to have great compression!
