I'll have to look into to adding the 8-tooth 3/8 to my 250. Pretty sure that there is a fresh 10 pack of them in parts box somewhere.
If memory serves if you have an original McCulloch bar which is 18" hard nose made for ,404 .063 chain a modern 72 driver 20" chain ,3/8" .063 chisel will fit up nicely .It will cut circles around that old chipper chain .Fact I once adapted a Stihl mount 32" bar which that old 250 handled with no problem .It was just an experiment b
ecause the only way to actually know is to do it .

Nice looking saw! A 28 inch bar is my favorite on a 10-10 because you don't have to bend over when cutting up small wood. Its a real life saver when cutting 10+ cord of wood as I do with my 10 series mac saws.
Yep 24" on 10-10S here same reason not bend over as much and for limbing.

Regarding the 10-10 models I also have a 10-10 A that will actualy out cut a 10-10 S which I also have .I don't use either one on a regular bassis .Nothing wrong with them I just own lighter faster saws .Plus several of the 10 series in the 70 cc range which of course produce more power .All of them will run almost forever if they aren't abused .Every so often a seal might fail but they are SAE sized and easy to find .

Agreed. My grandfather used his 10-10A for decades, until he couldn't. Just got too heavy for him and he moved over to the Stihl side. I must say, his MS 251 is like a hot knife through butter with the 18" Wood Boss bar. He decided to pass the old 10-10 on to me. It's been running strong for almost 50 years, and I intend to keep it running for years to come.

Found this 18" bar for my 10-10A. Seems to be a decent price for eBay.

Thoughts? Good fit or is there something better out there?

I was actually just looking at that particular 20" bar. I messaged him and he explained to me the sprocket issue. Not wanting to alter the sprocket or remove the clutch and replace the clutch drum. Looking to keep it to the (presumably) original spec.

The key with mcculloch saws is to file the rakers down a bit from stock. These chains are made for saws with higher rpm and less torque. Mcculloch saws have less rpm and much more torque than a modern saw so they need a more agressive chain.

Saw that one as well. Biggest thing that got me was the price tag. I saw $175 and almost had a heart attack.
If you don't buy it I will lol. You could also go to your local box store and get a $40 20 inch oregon/ huski bar that will fit with little to no mods.

Since I'm active duty, I'm really not home enough to be working on my saw. Not sure if I want to spend that much. I definitely won't stop you from buying the 20" bar. The 18" is mine for sure.

Something to consider, if you are going to put the saw on a shelf and admire it, buy the Mac bar and just smile every time you see it. If you plan on using the saw, go with Oregon and enjoy the cuts!

I have a near nos 20 inch hard nose mcculloch bar that I use to run on my 10-10. If that is some thing you would be interested in let me know.

I really appreciate the offer, but I am still on the hunt for a roller nose. But while it's on the table, what are you asking for it?
