The Titan 50/57 and DE50 saws use a Walbro HDA77 carburetor, and as an alternate the HDA46. The HDA77 seems to be in high demand, does anyone know if there are actual differences between the 46 and 77 or is it just perception?

Thanks

Mark

Do you need an HDA77? I am pretty sure I have a titan 50. I will check and see if it has a carb.

I finally got the CP125 back on my bench, and I figured out why it didn't have any spark. After setting the gap I got it to pop, but now I have a new issue. It always fires at the same time, mid-pull. I checked to make sure the flywheel key was intact (it was) and tried flipping the leads on the chip (the points are gone), but there wasn't any change. The only thing I know is different is the original coil is the upper in the 2nd pic and the one that replaced it is the lower one. Any chance they're timed different?

I don't think the coil is your issue Dan, the timing is only affected by the points or the chip.

Points are 57765 or 88807 (they changed the PN); I'd be happy to send you a set of points and condenser if you want to go that route. If you have another chip you could try that as well.

Look over your flywheel carefully and be sure it does not have a "5" stamped on one of the posts, that would make it a 5 degree advance flywheel from a kart and would impact timing with a chip since the chip only knows when the magnets come by.

Maybe you just need to be a little more determined when you pull it over...

FWIW they also had 2.5 and 5 degree off set keys for the flywheel .IMO the 2.5 would be a better choice because the one thing you do not want is a 125 kickng back at you .They used the 5 degree deal on karts but they were started using a long shaft Ford starter motor to roll them over running on alky and nitro at about diesel compression .One of my 125's has a 2.5 offset but usually it starts easy unless you flood it .--after thought in my case the 125C I have came wth a trigger device and the offset key but it failed .The entire points set was still intact which I used and adjusted the points to get it in better time .I might add that was not a 15 minute job until I got it it where I wanted .

Now regarding parts swaps from what info I could find using my micro fiche set plus the paper IPL's the 797 uses a full skirt piston where as the101 and 125 uses a semi slider design .Meaning one side of the piston skirt is longer than the opposite side for whatever reason I have no idea .Which is not to say using the companion rod it would not work .Keeping in mind Wiseco and others made pistons for the 101 back in the day .Fact Wiseco might be still capable of making them but the price would be extremely high .

I have the points setup, the points box took a severe hit many years ago and the shield and mounts are damaged, hence the chip. I've put another chip on it as well with no change. You could very well be right on a lack of determination, by the time it was popping I'd been fighting it for awhile. I'll try again this weekend when I'm still full of pep. Plus, I don't think neighbors appreciate the sound of a CP125 starting at late at night.

At one of the very first Iowa GTG's I fired up my 1-85 under a tree (it was October I believe) and all of the leaves fell off...

If you stand it the proper place when it is idling you can feel it thumping in your chest. It will stop your heart, then get it started again.

With the baffles removed a reed valve Mac is loud .Not nearly as loud as a 70 cc 10 series like a 6-10 with the timing advanced .Those will make dogs howl .I know for a fact those will wind up like a model air plane glow engine .Those are dynamite in a small package .

I think the frequency of the 7-10 make it more noticeable/annoying. I was running my 7-10 and an SP125 on a project one day and the young man helping me noted "that little one is louder"...

He poked fun at a stumble I took earlier in the day. Fortunately I had my phone handy later in the day.

Well, tomorrow I go in for another knuckle replacement, this time on my left hand & it can't be any too soon. This is the 3rd replacement, soon I'll run out of knuckles,Lol.Just when I was getting back to wrenching on saws again from the last surgery back in Aug.Oh well, time for more educational reading & another mini vacation.Although the last time I had a knuckle replacement the end of April,I continued to work on saws. The occupational therapist wanted to know if I was using my right hand to start the saws.I replied "no",then she wanted to know how I was starting them.I said it all depended on if they were RH start or LH start. She looked at me with a puzzled look.I had to have my son video me starting a saw with my left hand & when I showed it to her she then believed me.A man has to be innovative at times.
