It depends on the handle what you use .I'm not certain if any of my 10-10's has the original handle it came with .Some of the higher compression saws wear a Stihl 460 rescue saw D-handle .However on knots most times an overhand knot is not enough but a figure eight might be .If that isn't look up a stopper knot on Google . Pins are okay if that's what it takes tied with a clove hitch .

Last weekend someone came by to pick up a Husqvarna 435 I'd gotten running for him and dropped off this Montgomery Wards branded McCulloch PM610. To say it is a low hour saw would be an understatement. The paint isn't even worn off the bar rails on the top side.

In spite of very little use, the paint on the clutch cover is coming off in large flakes.

That paint flaking is likely due to the paint type and lack of primer being used when it was made .As a general rule if zink oxide (yellow primer ) is not used the paint has little chance of adhering over any aluminum alloy ,same with galvanized metal .Other than that the "610" is a very good example .

I had no idea McCulloch had made air cooled engines on outboards .I did however know about "Scott Atwater " .Thinking out loud 4 HP would about equate to 250 size more or less .For that matter the 250 design was used for a lot of things .Tough old dudes you about have to straight gas them to kill them .

I did a tad bit more research on these 4 HP models .According to what I found the engine was 5.3 cubic inch or 87 cc . IMO the 87's were the best reed valve engines . I would have thought it might be upwards of 5-51/2 HP but that would depend at what RPM's it was based on .I only suspect that might have been in the 6,000 RPM range but nothing to prove that as fact .Keeping in mind during that time period there were a lot of small outboards .Fact I have an air cooled I think has a Power Products or Westbend engine .Probabley not real fast on a row boat but a better option than a set of oars .

Another fellow dropped by today to give me a couple of McCulloch outboard documents he'd picked up at a recent auction. I found this one particularly interesting.

Speaking of Mac outboard, I have one of those 4 HP Sears Ted Williams motors.
It runs, just missing the choke linkage, cover plate, and the carb bowl retention threads are stripped.
Still have the original manual.

Will never use this. Wish someone would.
If anyone wants it, ship it or pick it up and its yours. PM me if interested.

That manual pretty much sums the little outboard up .At 3,400-4,000 RPM's they should run forever .In that era there must have been at least a dozen or more making them ,Sea king, Neptune and the list is almost endless .I even have a Firestone ( Mercury )5 HP that is a twin cylinder believe it or not .Auction deal,I think I have 30 bucks in 5 outboards I'll never use .Don't have a row boat to hang them on .

PM8200. Unique design among the 82cc models with the 6 bolt crankcase, three piece crankshaft, peculiar piston.

In most cases, the piston and cylinder sustain damage so I have a good solution here when the situation arises.

Can anyone tell me if the CP125 rod is specific to that saw? Can a CP125 piston be paired with say a 101 rod or 797 rod? I have a CP125 block that I need a rod for and trying to figure out what can be used.
