The 10-10S had electronic ignition, all of the other were still points ignition. The 10-10S had a lot more aluminum vs. magnesium and as such was heavier, then they added the long clutch cover for the 555, 570, and 10-10S which added both weight and bulk.

I'd take a PM55 over any of the other models including the anti-vibe 570 for the weight and bulk alone. On the other hand, I don't have to run it 8 hours a day and can tolerate the vibration when I use it for a tank or two.

I don't have any Mac parts so I modified a 288 husqvarna carb diaphragm and used a stihl 290 fuel line just to see if it would runIMG_20230925_123535.jpg
It fired right up but I'll wait for my parts to come in to cut with it
and I need an oring for the fuel cap.
Feels heavier than a 266 I'll have to weigh it.

The 57 cc McCulloch saws (PM55, 555, 570, 10-10S) are very nice. Definitely a big step up from the 54 cc models.

PM55, 7-10 and SP125 are a great trio.

A 125 sure would be cool to add to my small yellow collection.

So I was wondering if the PM55 was 54 or 57 cc.
I just tore one down yesterday.
Initially it looks pretty bad. Siezed, and lots of white oxidation in the tanks and inside the cylinder/stuffer area.
After a little compressed air, not too bad. Maybe I can save it, but it will take a lot of work. I have a good 1010S cylinder if port timing etc is the same.
Got the cylinder soaking to see if it lets go without taking the plating(I'm assuming its a chrome bore) with it.
The pm55 is a 57cc . They quite a good saw, I currently have 2? I just gave one to my younger cousin for his millilng and firewood projects.

Got any pics of that 10-10S? Should be a late 90's model?
Here ya go .10-10S left hand side .Later model 10-10 right hand .Of note I'm not saying nor disputing points type ignitions but it says "electronic ignition " I have no idea when is was made .I'd have to take inventory to actually know how many 10-10's I have .all except one were freebies and that one was in a box of McCulloch parts I bought off flea bay that the shipping cost more than the 40-50 pounds of stuff I bought that took two boxes .

I might add regarding the model 10-10 .It's kind of like the iconic model 1894 Whinchester 30:30 rifle over the years has taken more deer than all the others combined .This model of McCulloch has probabley cut more firewood . It's not the fastest but as a rule is bullet proof .Some vibrate and some don't .I have no idea why .

I'm going to guess that thing is used for starting jet engines, being made by Lear Aviation. Be kind of inconvenient to have a generator with throttle trigger!
I was assuming it would be a 12 volt system for boosting cars, trucks, etc. But you make a good point about it being made my Lear

Mark does have one.
They were for bush craft single prop planes, like the Alaskan taxi planes. Good to have in a emergency,

So curiosity got me on this one....found more of these Mcculloch/ Lear chargers. Looks like they originally had a selector switch for 12v or 24v output.

They are switchable from 12 to 24 volts.

DSC01420 (640x480).jpg

Many of the early Lear aircraft were 24V and not every small airport had a 24V charger so they put these together. This one still has the plug for the airplane (thanks Dan).

You could use a fast idle lock for more rapid charging, or as you can see above, some had a pin you could put in the throttle to hold it open.

My first one came from Joey Taylor (JoeyMT33), he had installed some very nice jumper cables in place of the plane plug.

They are powered by a Mac 10-10 left hand start.

Without a battery they are not really a great booster, takes a long time to get a fully discharged battery charged again.
