1-75 is tpgether and runs but has a few minor issues. Some will need more attention ans some, like the very soft "shock mounts" or the front handle will hopefully hold up throgh the PNW GTG then on the shelf for that saw.

That large felt washer over the crankshaft is supposed to be oiled and help lubricate the clutch drum bushing/bearing. The muffler shield was pretty badly beat up and cracked, some low temp brazing rod and the yellow "Mapp" cylinder for my propane torch took care of repairs.

Part of the sawdust shield behind the starter/clutch cover is missing, but I think for a few cookies at the GTG and for sitting on the shelf it should be O.K.

I still have a good supply of the round grills for the flywheel covers...

I will take the carburetor off again today and swap out the metering set with a stainless steel plate for a set with an aluminum plate just for the sake of science.

Well I had quite an adventure with the 1-75 today...before switching the metering diaphragm I thought I'd run it again for a bit first...no start. Prime and run then quit, repeat, repeat, investigate.

When I pulled the carburetor off I found this

20230606_084950.jpg

The saw was most definitely running (and cutting) yesterday. How could this happen? I'll point out that it's not the first time I've experienced something like this.

I reset it correctly and expected that to be the end of it.

20230606_085052.jpg

However, it still would not pull fuel. I kept searching for and explanation and eventually discovered the metering needle seat had swollen and would not pass fuel. When compressed in the fitting, the hole was basically closed.

20230606_102021.jpg

I installed a new seat, the metering diaphragm/gasket set with an aluminum disc, and had the saw running properly again. Restarting it warm proved to be interesting, evidently the needle leaks just a little and causes some minor flooding, and the point gap must be a bit wide leading to advanced timing because it snatched the starter out of my several times. None the less, it starts, runs, idles, and cuts.

20230606_085957.jpg

It is also interesting to note that when the throttle is fully depressed, it also moves the oiler push rod a bit and so pumps some oil to the chain. I don't know if this is by design or just a happy coincidence but I have noticed it happening on several of the top tank saw models.

So for anyone who reads my posts you know i love mixing parts. That being said. This is a super 797L. However...i did make it. I used a cp125 clutch, clutch cover, starter, and flywheel. They would be the correct period parts but it did not start out as a true S797L.

Bob Johnson is making gaskets & diaphragms for the MAC carburetors and rivets the plate to the metering diaphragm.

I bought some nitrile cover nylon (the material used to make the metering diaphragms and some fuel pump diaphragms) from American Rubber. I found the "Teflon" diaphragm material from an outfit called Rt21 Trading. At this time I have sent some along to Brian Genrich who is working to duplicate the gaskets and diaphragms for the BP-1 carburetors. Once that one is done I may work with Brian on other hard to find parts like the two man saw diaphragms.

Hi Mark,

I know it's been a while, but thanks for the mention. I just finished re-creating McCulloch Flatback Carb Kits, and have them up and on my site. In stock and ready to ship.

Currently working on replicating the (33, 35, 39) series diaphragm.

Thanks for the nice feedback Jacob,

I'm trying to carry the standard gaskets that fit a lot of different models, so I can cover more of what people are looking for....

If anyone needs something thats hard to get there hands on, I'll try to work with you just to get new templates to cover more saws. The McCulloch standard stuff I carry now is a good start, but always like to add new things if its something people need. I'm feeling pretty good on the diaphragms, so I've been trying to add versions that are harder to get. Pretty close on the 35 stuff, and I don't think anyone is really carrying those right now.

Send requests to info@oldsawshop.com and I'll do what I can to provide feedback/options.

Does anyone here know anything about the throttle linkage on a 1-75?Somehow the linkage came unhooked from the throttle trigger & it looks like the handle assembly must come apart in order to re-hook it.This is a giant can of worms IMO because the primer & oiler linkages are incorporated into the handle assembly as well.

Ed - I think @heimannm just went through a 1-75...

Answered with illustrations over on AS...

I have it with me so I can get some additional photos if needed once I reach Oregon.

Mark
The answer was not what I was looking for.You showed the throttle rod where it connects to the carb,I needed to know how to reconnect it to the thropttle TRIGGER.I was also told by Bob J.that the governor vane wasn't absolutely necessary if you're not out cutting with the saw on a daily basis. The governor vane was there only to prevent over-revving at high rpms.

I got the pesky throttle rod attached to the trigger on the 1-75 today with a little persistence.I couldn't figure out why the saw would only run on a prime as I had it running 4 yrs.ago.I finally checked the needle settings & found the lo was turned in all the way & the hi was only turned out 1/2 - 3/4 turn.Once I set the needles at 1 1/4 turns oput to start the saw ran fairly well.

I thought it was time I formally introduced myself.

I've been a member here a while but have spent most of my "saw" time on McCulloch facebook groups. I've worked with Mark Heimann on a few projects for diaphragms and carb kits (BP-1 etc...) which he's mentioned. I decided I'd had enough outside interest in the Stickers and Gaskets I initially made for my own use that I should start a store and make it more of a legitimate business. It's still a side hustle, but I've built a complete offering for 10 series saws, and am really starting to get somewhere on some of the gaskets and diaphragms for the early 60's McCullochs. Below are links to some of our products. The newest of which is a 33,35,39 series Metering Diaphragm. My goal has been to reproduce some of the harder to get items now that I have a lot of the 10 series stuff already made.

McCulloch 10 series saw gaskets
McCulloch 10 series Accurate reproduction Stickers
McCulloch Flat Back Carb Kit
McCulloch 125 gasket kit
McCulloch Top Tank Fuel Tank Gasket
McCulloch BP-1 carb kit
McCulloch front Tank fuel tank gasket
McCulloch 33 series saw Metering Diaphragm

All of these can be found at www.oldsawshop.com along with stickers. Most of which is for McCulloch, but we have a few other oddballs in the mix.

Feel free to reach out to me with gasket projects at info@oldsawshop.com

Thanks,

Brian Genrich

The 73 did run and cut at the recent PNW GTG. It even successfully restarted several times...

The saw belongs to Don AKA Sawfun

That one will fit the early saws without a brake. The handle on the later saws with a brake will have more radius in the corners and a wider space between the vertical member and the outside of the frame.

For those that don't wander over to the Vintage Chainsaw Museum thread, the SP60 I recently got from Ted J (Warped5)

20230622_092119.jpg

20230622_092413.jpg

It is a nice complement to the one I already have in the display. This one has the hand guard, the other one is equipped with a chain brake.

Saws with the cold weather set up are supposed to have a special brass mesh air filter.
