I have no idea when the atom bomb was built or why they bypassed the points .They anchored that gizmo in place with some type epoxy ,might as well have used chewing gum because it kept rattling loose which broke off the wires .For that matter the offset key might have been installed backwards retarding the timing ,not advancing it .So if it's 2.5 degrees that would be approx .23.5 degree instead of the stock 26 advance .All I know is with the points ignition plus the key it runs better .As for the flywheel the only way it could have been that tight was if they heated the hub and drove it in place or used an impact wrench on it .That thing is one of those old school Clydesdales ,doesn't see much action .I once spent 4 hours running that thing with a 48" bar, wore me out and I was a lot younger then .

Just for future reference AL Holley 4bbl float bowl screws a 12-24 and they're pretty long. I usually get at least one flywheel pull out of a pair.

At the time I was still working .We had a "bolt bin " that had about any thing up to at least 1'' plus metric ,woodruff keys and things like that.I sure do miss it being retired .I found those long number 12's in a bin with misc unused sizes . However that said those pull holes had to be a mistake .Maybe that's why they used the atom bomb except the FW had to be pulled at some time for the offset key .Hard to say but it was a west coaster so any thing is possible .

Now the actual saw .It came out of northern California and the guy had no idea what it was and evidently nobody else did .I was working afternoons and with 3 hours difference in time zones I snached it on a snipe bid with 15 seconds left to go ,fast computor fast connection .I think I have about $140 in it including the ride .It's the one on chainsaw collectors corner that's all black .

Had a couple of those magical drawer shelves at the coal steam plant I worked at in the early 2000s.

The Atom chips, like the Nova chips must be anchored securely in order to get a good ground.Ya can't try to glue 'em down, won't work for squat.

I had a PM10-10 that had a chip in it.Apparently the PO didn't read the instructions on how to install the chip,& had no concept of how it worked. The PO had removed the condenser & left the points in as if they were still working. He ran the wire to the points screw that comes out of the points box & connected the wire up to the coil.It would've been OK if he had locked the points open, but they were still trying to "fire" which totally screwed up the concept of the chip.Once I removed the points assembly & put a new chip in,the saw ran like a champ.

When installing in a 10-10A the new fuel line, what kind of sealant added where it goes through the fuel tank cover has been effective at preventing/eliminating seepages?
Easy to find products locally preferred!!!

A few wraps of Teflon tape works amazing. You can even fix a poor fitting old line with a few more wraps too!

I don't know why you would try to delete the points .Macs are almost fool proof .It would take forever to wear out the points .About the only thing to fail would be the condenser . Mag points are not like a battery spark where you could burn the points .The primary voltage is so low it doesn't affect them .Then again like a lot of things whatever floats your boat .
Now I'll make an exception on like a single cylinder Briggs engine and use a self contained solid state coil which after market is cheap .Besides that I get tired of pulling the flywheels .

I was thinking of going back to points on the PM 10-10.The only thing is I've only got about 2 or 3 condensers left that are any good.I sure as hell am not going to pay $30 + shipping for a "new" condenser that I don't even know is any good. There will come a time when the chip will be the only resort to keep these old Macs running.

I think I get better throttle response from the chip.

I've been keeping busy putting parts away (see "What's on your bench" for details...) but did want to point out there were at least three different starter pulleys and spring set ups used on the 10 Series RH start saws. The original had an hook on the end and the pulley had a slot, you and to get the slot in the pulley to drop over the hook and still get the boss to fit inside the spring...that could be a great challenge. Even more so if the spring had been tweaked at all.

Later on the springs had a small loop similar to the LH start saws and the same kind of notch in the boss on the pulley to engage the spring. Those are much easier to get back together but being down deep in the starter like they are, they can still pose a challenge.

It's a little hard to see in this photo but the one on the right has the notch for the looped end on the spring. On the other two, the slot in the pulley has to drop over the hook on the spring.

No sealant should be needed if the fuel line is correct for the saw. As Steve noted, a few wraps of Teflon tape will work wonders. I recently bought an AM fuel line just to see if it would work...it was so loose in the hole I tossed it aside, I'm not sure even Teflon tape would be able to fix it. When I run out of OEM lines I will continue to use grommets and Tygon, I find that is also a good solution and provide a leak proof pass through the fuel tank.

Now then mag condensers .On a battery ignition they must be matched to the coil but on a mag anything that fits will work .It's only function in life is to prevent the points from flashng over .The primary voltage on a mag is so low just about anything will work .Fact I once used a Delco condenser from a Fergeson tractor on a 1943 Caterpillar D4 pony engine mag .
On the 125C WTH it starts easy and how fast it runs I have no idea but fast enough .Just by design this thing is not like Stihl MS 200T that can be made to wind up like a model airplane engine .Nor for that matter is it like a Sears 360 wiith an AH-47 engine you can almost file the chain when it's in the cut .

More ramblings .On the two 99 cc Partners I did during the lock down one ( Mac 1000 ) had a single self contained coil and one ( P-100 ) had a seperate trigger design .That one had intermentent spark and about drove me insane, bad trigger unit .To replace that so called "ignatron " would cost more than the saw is worth .I could have used a Novi or atom bomb I suppose but found out the coil from a 272 Husqvarna would fit .12 bucks after market .
