That lathe set up amuses me ,looks like something I would do .Nothing is impossible but at times it takes longer to build the holding fixture than it does to make the cuts .

For sure! I was hoping to make something that would allow me to setup a jug fairly quick to cut the bearing pockets….still need to try cutting one

I bought a PM605 a few days ago ($35) & got it yesterday. It was missing the AF cover & AF,no problem as I had them here.Suppopsedly the saw ran,so late yesterday I tried starting it & it was a no go (the dumb ass shipped the saw with fuel in it).Today I pulled the plug (it was loose) & gave it a shot of fuel in the plug hole & it fired up.I pulled it over about 2 or 3 times with the choke on & it fired up again. It was racing at a fairly high idle,so I shut it down & checked the needle settings - they were spot on .I fired it up again & it was still at the high idle,so I tried adjusting the idle speed screw & got no results.I shut it down again & found the throttle was sticking, probably needs a shoty of lube in the trigger assembly.
Then there was the chain brake.I could see that the spring wasn't locked in place,so I must've fiddled with that for over an hr.I tried using a different spring from another style chain brake & still it wouldn't work.I came to the conclusion that either the latch on the top wasn't machined properly,or it was simply worn too much.I ended up putting a different chain brake on for now.I got the new 20 in.bar & chain in the mail today,so that went on the saw tyoo.I now have a complete & running PM605.thumbnail.jpg thumbnail.jpg thumbnail.jpg

Just updating everyone...as you probably know my younger brother Ed passed away on 7 August and my older brother Ray has been battling cancer for the past year and a half. Last night Ray lost the battle. Things will be different moving forward.

Hi guys. I purchased a couple parts on Ebay. Two intakes that were listed for SP105's. Figured they were reasonable so least I could do is pass them along if they won't work for 125. I haven't been in the game much for my 125's due to life and moving. Due to my saws/parts/ipls being in storage from moving can anyone tell me if this part number is the same from 105 to 125? I can not find an ipl online. Thanks everyone.

I am looking into some reproduction piston rings for certain part numbers that are no longer available. Initially I am considering:

87854 - standard thin rings for the 82 cc 10 Series saws (SP80/81/81E, PM850/800/805, DE80, PM8200)

89732 - standard thin rings for the 70 cc 10 Series saws that use the 85239 piston (some 7-10, PM700, etc.)

62814 - standard thick rings for the 54 cc 10 Series models

My initial reseach has turned up a possible supplier (RJ Machine in New Mexico) but I would have to sell the rings at $30+ per set plus shipping to make it work.

I have checked with DLA (Greece) and they don't have anything available.

I have also gone through a few other AM sources and have not found anything close enough to make due for these saws.

My real question is, at $30+ per set would I ever be able to sell these rings?

TIA for your consideration.

Im a "if I need it I need" kind of guy. If that's all I can find then eventually I'll pay it. After a bunch of hee hawing and whining about it first!

How many sets of rings will you have to order to be $30 plus shipping?

Depends on how you look at it .Tool steel rings last forever . Saying that price a set of Stihl OEM rings and with that in mind 30 bucks wouldn't be out of sorts for a total restoration .Another option if you could find the generic size but too thick they could be surface ground down for thickness . I did exactly that for an Indian Warrior MC when I was 18 years old which has been many years ago .If Wiseco makes custom pistons they can most certainly could make the rings but my world would they be costly .The last of that brand I bought were a set of 13 MM circlips which were 15 bucks .

Hey guys. I just wanted to drop in and say hello.

Haven't been on here regularly in a while, other projects taking my time. I still have the PM60 you guys helped me with on gas tank advice. Hoping to finally get to it after Christmas.

A little blurb about piston rings .This probably wouldn't be tried by one out of one thousand people but you can make them .I have a half dozen I turned out of O2 steel which are not finished because I found a set for a Mac 125 from Mike Acres .
You can Google the methods or maybe find them on You Tube .It was years ago I researched it on British motor cycle sites .That said it's not a simple task to do but might be an option if all else fails .

Anyone interested in installing a Time Sert in a PM55 cylinder for me?I can't see spending $140+ for a kit that I'd use one time.I've seen the kits that are 2 or 3 over. The jackass that had the saw wallowed out the plug hole so badly that the plug's threads don't even touch the threads in the cylinderI'll pay for shipping both ways, the cost of the materials used,& any charges for labor.TIA!
