Anyone interested in installing a Time Sert in a PM55 cylinder for me?I can't see spending $140+ for a kit that I'd use one time.I've seen the kits that are 2 or 3 over. The jackass that had the saw wallowed out the plug hole so badly that the plug's threads don't even touch the threads in the cylinderI'll pay for shipping both ways, the cost of the materials used,& any charges for labor.TIA!

Go to your local auto parts store and get this. You won't even need to take the saw apart.

I'm afraid the insert would fall right out.I have some that are similar that I can try.I might have to go with an 18mm.plug.

If they are that bad then why not replace the cylinder? The 57cc cylinders were everywhere a few years ago. I know I had at least 4 at one point. Seemed to show up out of nowhere! Lol!

Yikes! Didn't realize it was that bad now. I'd give that insert kit a try that I posted. It has fixed every cylinder I have ever repaired. It uses a solid insert like a timesert. It may get you fixed up. If your not pressed for time they are cheaper online like most things.

I tried the insert I had here & it just falls in & out of the plug hole. It's wallowed out to about 16mm.

If it's that bad Ed it either needs to be welded up and drilled and taped back to 14x1.25 or the cylinder replaced. I'm afraid any other means won't be a lasting repair.

Depends on how you look at things .Personally I would not spend a kings ransom on a 50 year old saw.--unless it were very rare and I really liked it .--but to each their own, not my call .

On that wallered out plug hole .It just depends but it might be such a thing as tapping it out to 18 MM 1.5 .Some older chainsaws used this size .I'd have to dig out one of my antiques to get the plug make, type and amount of reach and over all length .BTW you can find just about any type of spark plug ever made on e-bay some NLA and often at reasonable prices .

I had to go out to 18mm on a guy's 066 once. He was a saw miller and had run the plug loose on several occasions. I had to make the plug wire longer and notch the top cover, but it worked fine.

Couple years ago my bud Tom, a trimmer replaced a stolen Stihl 440 with a 441 which -really was a let down .After about a year it lost compression and he thought he blew a hole in the piston .Off he ran off to buy another one and gave the 441 to me .It took me all of five minutes until I found a blown out plug .Screwed it back in, made a few cuts and called him up to come get it ..I don't screw people .It kept blowing the plug and he had a coil put in which cured it .I think that job cost him about 50 bucks at the time .It's likely to be 75 now I'd imagine .

It also depends on what you'd consider to be a "king's ransom".Would that be $20,$50,or more?I found a plug conversion on Amazon that converts from 18mm to 14 mm.for $22.I'd have to tap out the plug hole to 18mm.,insert the adaptor & hope for the best.Personally, the PM55 is my favorite go to saw. Then there are others who think that spending more than $10 to revive an old Mac is a waste of time & money.

Well I'm not going to argue about it .I really don't care how you repair it or how much you spend getting it repaired .I merely said I don't spend much money getting one to operate .

I use JB Weld insterad of locktite to bond the insert in place whenever I use a helicoil or a plug insert. Never had one fail since I switched to JB Weld from locktite. It's more permanent but it's not you will ever want to take it out

I was told that JB Weld will not hold up,that it'll vibrate loose.

Not saw related but curious if anyone has ever seen a Mcculloch generator like this. Saw it forsale on Facebook marketplace and although I'm not interested in purchasing enjoy the history and various things they did.
