I finally got around to rebuilding the carb for the 1-70 today. It sat in a sour cream container for a few days & that old rancid gas smell was giving me a headache.Wouldn't ya know that after I got the carb all put together when I noticed that I'd put the wrong inlet needle in.I had to tear it back down just to put that damn needle in.Oh well, better to catch it now while it's still out of the saw.It might've worked with the other needle, but why take a chance?I still have to pressure test it yet.

While I was rebuilding the carb,I got an offer for a refund on the turd saw. With taxes & shipping I paid $116.64,she offered a $90 refund & with taxes it came to $97.20 refund.I accepted it as it wasn't worth the aggravation to box it up & send it back.Besides,I figured there could be at least $19 worth of parts on the turd.I pulled it completely apart (except for the engine) & wound up with an SDC37 carb,a good manual oil pump (no automatic pump in the turd),a possible good coil,a flywheel & points box.The rim on the clutch drum was still good & the drum too.I can probably part the clutch back together & make that good again.I got a good tank handle & front handle too.I'll be using a bunch of these parts on my 2-10 saw build.I can probably rebuild the recoil too. Here are some more porn pics of the turd.

A while back I was going to replace my 10-10A engine with a PM 10-10 engine. Then I decided to just put a set of rings in the old 10-10A.Well as luck would have it,I found a nice 10-10A short block on Feebay for $43 that looks to be in great shape.I don't know if I'll be able to get it back together in the next 2 weeks,I'm having neck surgery & I'll be laid up for a while (possibly up to 6 months).

Yikes. Good luck with your surgery!
Yeah, this surgery is a bit more involved than the previous 4 neck surgeries. There's a possibility I might lose my voice permanently due to the proximity of the vocal cords & scar tissue from the previous surgeries..Sorry this is off topic about Mac saws, but it is indirectly.I was involved in a tractor accident just before I turned 16,I was thrown from the tractor & landed on my neck.We were rear ended by a car speeding in a snowstorm. My brother & I were on our way to cut firewood.

Oh man. How do tolerate people? You aren't pain free I'm sure. I have very low tolerance for idiots, snowflakes ect.
It's difficult at times, especially when I explain something to a person(s) & after I'm all finished they stand there & say "what did you just say"?Not because they didn't understand what I just said, but because they didn't listen to what I just said.
The worst people arte the "drs." in pain management. They think that since I've had surgery that all has been cured & they're continually trying to cut back on my pain meds.I was recently prescribed Gabapentin for neuropathy in my foot.I like to research the med & look up the side effects. This drug is prescribed to dogs for excessive barking & nervousness (poor dogs). There were so many nasty side effects that I didn't take it.The "dr." said that side effects go away after I stop taking the drug.I replied that stroke, heart attack,& death don't go away.No answer.....

Back on track here,I finally had a bit of time to put the 1-75 recoil back together today. It seems to be a bit sluggish though.Once the spring is in,how many winds should I give the rope drum to tension it?I gave it 3.

Maybe a little dry graphite on the shaft?
Need to do that to my 1010S and 1010A.
They were both the same way last weekend. I think grease may ne stiffening up and making them slow to rewind.

I know I'm not supposed top use any type of petroleum based lubricant on the spring.I do have some graphite powder that I can put in it & see if it gets any better.I gave it a bath in Dawn dish soap to clean off any excess grease.I think the broken/missing spring was the reason the 1-75 was shelved.

I’ve been on Gabapentin before, lemme tell ya it was not fun. On the one hand, it kept my severely damaged nerves pretty disconnected from my brain so I didn’t feel the full effects when they would spasm. (Disclaimer: based off of the toned down version I don’t want imagine what sorta pain I would have been in if I wasn’t on it) On the other hand it left my brain disconnected, confused, and unable to process pretty much anything. To the best of my knowledge all the side effects did disappear shortly after I stopped taking it, but unless you are dealing with crippling/overwhelming pain I would not recommend it.

I got a little more saw time in today.I have a PM 10-10 that needed a chain brake,I bought one from Bob Johnson about a month ago & he took it apart because "didn't have a box big enough to ship it all together".Now if anyone here has ever tried to put the handle back on the chain brake after it's been taken off, let's just say there are much more fun things to do.Bob showed me how to do it 2 yrs.ago when I was there.Good thing I had one off a 600 series saw for reference. It only took me 40 min.to get it back on after I cursed Bob & all his ancestors. The brake will go on the saw tomorrow.I had to replace the screw that goes on the coil that the recoil screw screws into.I also hunted up the 2 screws that go into the recoil.I've got a new air filter cover with decals for the saw.The one that came with it said 10-10S.Normally I wouldn't
care, but this saw is like new internally.I'll get some pics on here tomorrow. The saw will look sharp.

Ed - The 10 Series brakes are much easier to put together than the 600 Series saws. I ended up making a tool to help wind that spring. Maybe I will remember to take a few photos one day to share.

RI - I haven't found anything on the SM57 or the 62556 part number yet. Measure the distance between three rivets, 7/16" pitch chain would be 7/8" for three.

OK. It will be a bit. Looked like it was 3/8 by sight.

Mark,
The brakes on the 600 series saws are very similar to the 10 series brakes.I used a 600 series brake as a reference to put the 10 series brake back together yesterday. The biggest problem I had was that spring wanted to tip out of place when I'd start to try to bring the handle/lever back & try to hook onto the brake band.I found that by pushing the brake band forward as much as possible helped the process. That little spring has a LOT of tension!
