I can just buy the cells from Ebay or Amazon too.

Yup, that is the best way now. Was not as easy to do that when I rebuilt my battery pack. Just 10 sub-c nicad cells is all you need. Also be aware that saw is positive ground!

Good to know, thanks for that!!!
Do you have any parts kicking around for the 81 @Steve? You're always good for parts lol.

Ok, good to know, thanks.
Any clutch covers? The nonbrake covers seem a hot commodity for some reason.

No clutch covers either. They are hard to come by because they where not produced very long on the LHS saws when the chain brake was released. Also they where brittle. I have only had 1 of 5 that I had that didn't have some sort of damage to it.

Ya, I guess I will run the gutted brake cover for now. I wouldn't be opposed to fixing the brake if I could find all the parts for it.

Here's today's projects. Rebuilt the recoil and the carb on my 7-10. The fuel filter was MIA and the carb screen was full of debris from the tank, it was also totally missing the metering side gasket. Amazing that it ran as well as it did.
I took the 24" bar off the 7-10 and swapped it with the 20" I had stuck on Scrap Heap. I also noticed that these silver streak bars are not properly drilled for oiling on these Macs in spite of being listed as fitting so I remedied that as well. I also added some dogs to Scrap Heap

Tonight's project...... really debating whether I want to spend $30 on diaphragms for this flatback or just convert to a Tillotson. I have plenty of parts saws here but I have been told that the flatback gave a performance edge over the Tillotson and being that this is a Super 250 I don't really want to stifle it's power.

Scrap heap, meet Trashpile.
Found it lying out in the rain in a pile of long dead plastic saws. Fixed Fuel line end at carb. Started in 3 pulls. Chain was rusted into bar.

Its amazing what these things can survive. Only thing that kills them is needle bearings coming apart, straight gassing for a tank or 3, and possibly being run over by a bulldozer.

So speaking of the fuel filter being MIA, mine on the 7-10 is apparently coming apart and clogging the inlet screen. Havent tried it yet, but has anyone thought of shoving a newer style filter into the factory line with the old wick filter removed?

I cut the end off and install a modern ceramic type filter on all of mine. The felt finds its way in there eventually.

The flat back with the choke is a more reliable carburetor than the primer types. My recommendation is keep the flat back and take advantage of the performance edge.

Now you have to decide which one of us to believe...

Remember that if you decide to use and HL, you will need to add the spacer between the carburetor and the mounting flange to keep the adjustments screws in the "window".

I have one of those miserable pot lickers on I think a 250 super .I got it running good once .Weather it ran as good as most 87 cc Macs is debatable .I'll just stop there but it's not my favorite carb .I'll take an HL any day .
