FWIW the best mufflers for the 10-10--through 700 are those with a curvature on the bottom and the larger cover on the discharge .Any will work but those the most non restrictive .Probably the loudest too if you omit the baffle plate .Wear those muffs .

Let's have a few photos of that 73A, that's one saw I would like to add to collection one day.

You can make candy eyes at this one if you like.

I was corresponding with the gal that was selling that BP-1. Not yours, Mark, the one on fleabay. It was only about 50 miles from me so I was asking about a local pickup deal. She said the compression was 60 PSI. I hope it really does run for whoever bought it. Also made me a little a nervous that the chain was on backwards. I bid it up to 1,500 anyway, figured it was a better investment than my beer can collection. I lost though.

About 9 months production run, one of the stories circulated about the limited run was fear that the air vane governor would fail and the engine would overspeed. Another report was they were just too complicated for the chainsaw mechanics of the day. I also heard there were fears of the heat they generate as it is a really high output 46 cc engine.

The do get hot, and they do accelerate very quickly and rev up to 10,000 RPM, I can understand the concern. There are also stories that they were supposed to be recalled and destroyed but evidently a good number escaped that fate.

The Auto-Mac chain is unique, almost like old fashion scratcher chain and the grinding wheel actually touches the clutch drum to spin it while it is touching the chain.

If it's got good compression, they will last about forever. But they are kinda slow and heavy.
