The Uni Filter material comes in several different levels of porosity/density and is intended to be used with filter oil for the highest degree of effectiveness. A properly oiled filter can go much longer between cleanings than a dry one and can also filter much finer material while still delivering superior air flow compared to dry paper, fiber, or other dry alternatives.

A couple of ideas on this filter business .I used filter media paper to get by with a worn out flocked filter on one of my Partner P-100s until I found a replacement .What I'm talking about is just a heavy duty cloth about like a coffee filter .Another could be a layer or two of HEPA media like used on an industrial filter for a commercial vacuum cleaner .I used this stuff on the masks I make because if this plague we are dealing with .These are filter bags for an industrial Kirby cleaner and relatively inexpensive .Flea Bay of course ,my favorite hardware store next to McMaster -Carr .I could run all over this one horse town for week and not find anything .Takes me 5 minutes on the net and have it in three days .

I'm determined to get the first MAC I bought running. It's been sitting for about 6 years collecting dust.

MAC 380

Having fuel issues with it. The saw holds pressure and vacuum well and fires on prime after many pulls.

I've tried two carbs on it. The flatback with a new kit in it and an HL-63G set up.

I I figured it may be a reed issue so I pulled both the 380 and a junker yellow top Super 250 down and both reeds look good.
The only difference is the the 250 reeds are phenolic or something and the 380 reeds are steel.

The little tube that goes through the reed stop to pick up crank case pulse is missing on the 380. I'm hoping that's the issue.

Any opinions on whether it would be better to use the reed setup from the 250 or stay with the steel reed setup on the 380?

The steel reeds last a long time, but when they break they will potentially damage other parts in the crankcase. The fiberglass reeds will probably fatigue and fail sooner but are unlikely to cause any collateral damage.

Let's see photo's of the two reed plates and the tube you mention.

Super 250 reed setup. You can see the little tube at the rear of the reed stop.

Looking through a few IPL's that tube only appears on the 250, 300, and 550 not on the 200, 380, or 450. I'm afraid I have not been inside enough of those to know the how's and why's.

The handle / carb box appear to be identical except for the the pulse channel for the idle regulator that came on the 380. I think I'll put the 250 unit on the 380 with the HL carb and see what happens.

I have the time.

Thanks for the input Mark.

I am still cleaning up saws in preparation for moving them to the new museum and workshop building and decided to tackle this 10-10. I thought it would be nice to have the full wrap handle bars on display and I already have a RH start set up over there. When I took it apart it was dirty, the fuel tank was leaking, the fuel cap was leaking, and it died while I was trying to tune it and lost spark. Upon disassembly I found it had been fit with a chip, and that the wire had come loose. I decided to switch it back to points.

The short brake clutch cover had a few deficiencies already so I didn't mind modifying it to fit the full wrap bar.

Which Green Machine do you have there? I have a 7700 that I did enjoy running but cleaned it up and moved it to the museum to have a few "Made In Japan" saws to look at. Perhaps the best throttle response of any saw except for the BP-1. (See how I made it about McCulloch?)

It’s a 7600 and it belongs to a friend. It is indeed a good running saw. Ditto on the throttle response. The MP-60 will be needing a recoil spring. Any idea where to look for that. Before tonight if you had given me three try’s to spell McCulloch I’d have missed all three. I know very little about the saw. Thanks, Jim

You can spell it now, and you may catch yellow fever! I am sure Mark has recoil springs, so pm him, or look on eBay.
Beware...if You get her running right you might want one yourself...or maybe three or four and then a 125...oh and the mini macs...

I'm up to 8 Mini Macs now. Havent managed to finish any of them, but they are interesting to play with.
10 series are just great saws IMO. Tough as nails, and awesome torque. There may be faster saws, but these dont stall when you lean on the dogs.

What few 10 series that had the so called "reed " mufflers were not the best idea IMO .Most of them you find are rusted shut. Not good . I'm not certain if I have a one of them installed on a saw .
What the idea was supposed to be I'm uncertain of because I've never had one that was operational .

I'll try and help you out with them. Lot of variations and some good parts to watch for.
