I’ll really have to go through them, as I don’t have the majority of bars separated very well. I have a couple big roller noses parked on one of my 797’s, and 125’s.

Nice find Frank, Like others have mentioned you will like the 895. They are very
strong runners especially In big wood. I would recommend a 42 inch minimum
but the 895's also had 2 different gear ratio's, One at 3-1 and then 2-1 so depending
on what yours is will depend on bar length and chain size. Good luck with it.

What is the best way to verify gear ratio?

Remove the starter and turn the drum till the sprocket turns 1 full revolution.
If drum turns 3 times to 1 sprocket revolution it will be 3-1, 2 drum revolutions to 1 sprocket is 2-1.

My only experience with a gear reduction Mac is the 650 I have which is 2 to 1 ratio .It's surprisingly a fast cutter but you have to hook the dog and put some grunt to it for it to really throw the chips .On the other hand if you just drop the reins it just gnaws it's way almost like it isn't under much of a load . I could put a .404 spur on it and use the 48" bar that is on the avatar saw but I haven't done it .

If you thought the Mac 650 was strong, and it is, you should try a 660! There is a pretty big, make that very big, difference in peeformance.

If I read it right they both have the same engine ,87 cc -5.3 cubic inches .the 650 is a lefty the 660 a righty .Why in the name of sense they ever hung the starter on the right side I'll never know .

The 660 is also a LH starter, the engine is more like the Super 250 compare to the 250. The 660 even had the extra holes in the AF cover like the Super 250.

Most of the 1-6X saws were RH starters but there were some LH as well. Belgian had a factory LH start version and I have one that someone converted by installing a cover over the starter hole on the RH side.




RH start saws are really quite natural when you are starting them over a large log or on the bench. They are not so handy if you are inclined to drop start a saw or start one with the rear handle locked behind your knee.

On the righty's ,I've only got two running .A 6-10 and a super 44 A .The 6-10 is okay but that damned super 44 A has a hold down choke and it would be real handy to have three hands .I just jamb it with a little screw driver .

Hold the throttle and the choke with your left hand, pull the starter with the right hand.

Can anyone tell me where the oil tank vent is on a 7-10 automatic?
I know the 10-10 autos had the wiggler pin in the top corner next to the filler cap. Looks to ne a screw with a locking nut coming through the top of the tank. Is that it?

Not too sure about the early saw with the decomp in the side of the cylinder but the later ones are in the cap.



I've never had an oil cap apart. I depend on the leaky tank gaskets.

Tim, I havent looked at the 700s or the 1010S yet. This 7-10a has the ridged cap instead of the square top one. Its just a plain cap. Dont see any kind of vent, except that one screw that comes down from the top with a lock nut. It doesnt seem to do anything else.

This #92 guy? Unfortunately the description for #92 is for the other #92 in the illustration which is the bearing snap ring. Sure looks like a good place for an oil tank vent to me. It is conspicuously absent in later models with a vented cap and I'll take a guess that the boss is also un-threaded/plugged in later models to facilitate venting through the cap..

Look at item 43. I think that may be what I'm seeing. If so, thats just a screw that holds down the manual oiler stuff on top of the tank. I see a depression in the pic where it looks like another hole could have been. Follow the line from item 43 in.

So I picked up my first RHS today. Let me rephrase. I picked up PART of it. 1-10. Unfortunately, its missing the clutch and starter, along with the front handle.
Got another 700 carcass for parts too.

Dream - 42 and 43 are the 8-32 screw and nut on the manual oil pump, the other 8-32 screw (not shown) screws in to a tapped hole in the oil tank.

The only vent provided is by the oil cap on that particular saw. If your saw does not have a vented cap, someone has swapped it out along the way.

Some oil tank caps actually had a duckbill valve as shown in the IPL, many others just have a piece of felt in the cap with a cover that holds it in place, often time that cover (shown as item 55) pops off and is found in the bottom of the oil tank.

Think I'll take the cap off one of the 700s and use that. I cant see any kind of hole in this cap.

Not all e-bay stuff is a rip off .For a mini I wouldn't think a 14" hard nose would be hard to find . 1/4" chain is where you find it .One fellow in Washington state had 14" loops of 1/4" for Stihl 015 he only wanted 10 a pop for .Might still for all I know .Couple yeas ago I bought two .
