Pumping water rarely pays growing grass. Figure out a good way to stockpile some extra hay for the dry spells.

This was mid may in the frozen north. You need to chop up your pastures so you can rotate. Then give them enough rest to recover to this. Deep rooted native grasses that will recover. See the round bale scars in the next paddock? They're gone now. All broken down and reabsorbed. That's the sign of a healthy bacterial and bug population( the good kind)

Lightening scares me since I have these cows to worry about.

Me too, I have lost several over the years from lighting. And my insurance only pays a pre set amount. I think it is about $300.00 for the cows, $400.00 for 5wt. calves, and $1000.00 for the bull.

Ahh. Makes more sense now.

That's a perfect repurpose. Them bastids ain't gonna crush or break that all to hell

One of the floods last year moved two of them. And I've had cows break one of the floats in a smaller one. Other than that they've been great. Can't beat the price either.

One thing about up here...we don't get flooding like other places. I hunted around Des Arc, AR 15 years ago. The cabin on stilts we drove to was on a good sized river. And the water was maybe 30 ft lower than the cabin. 3 weeks before us, they brought the hunters in by boat, right up to the front porch. If our rivers rose 20', we'd all be under water

@Mastermind you trying to irrigate grasses that are being grazed on ? I have done this as the old man has irrigation that we have to move the fence every time we run it. Gate handles. It really doesn't work the best for me as I get crab grasses and they seem to eat around where the water hits... Gets tough I guess Or are you looking to cut for hay? Just curious I think concrete grazer said it best as watering grass isn't reAl cost effective

I was hoping you were making a bomb proof hay ring ... Anyone have any clues how ?? This guy is gentle but he likes to lean on stuff and he's fat.....

I don't know if there is such a thing. The closest thing I've seen was one made in shop class out of heavy square tubing. The best one I've bought was one of these. You could cut the sidewall out of a floater tire if waste wasn't a big concern.
