The only dolmar/ makita saw I've ever seen around here is my Makita, other than Randy's gtg.

I always say the uninformed consumer is the best test of knowledge, people on these forums think that the public feels the same way they do about a chainsaw...if I asked joe schmo walking down the street today to name 3 chainsaw brands it would go a little something like this..

1 - stihl
2 - husqvarna
3 - echo..and maybe poulan.

Brand recognition..its a hell of a thing, some of the imbeciles I've worked with cant even pronounce jonsered yet..and the little that existed here is gone now anyway.

My friends that know nothing about OPE equipment assume stihl is the best..no matter what, it could be an ms 170 but its automatically better than anything because its a STIHL...marketing 101..and it's what they see when the guys across the street are taking a tree out of their neighbors yard..we know better..but they don't.

We had a good husqvarna dealer around here about 10 years ago when the husky 3 series saws were hot, that's gone too..my boss knows absolutely nothing about chainsaws and still talks about the 346xp..said it was his favorite saw ever (performance wise) .. echo is creeping into the tree business here gaining some strength off of guys not liking m-tronic..who knows where that will end up.

We have 3 echo dealers, atleast 4 stihl dealers and 2 husqvarna dealers within a half hour of here. The Echo dealers are pretty good outfits around here.

I remember when Stihl and Husky were only available at rigging shops out here, Echo had the farm and landscaping taken care which we see almost none of out here. Dolmar I saw the first ones about 10 years ago with the 7900 or 7910 can’t remember which exactly but they weren’t recognized or received well out here on the west coast between the anti vibe mounts, the air filtration, and dawgs that were about worthless they didn’t take hold.

There's a lot of truth in this statement. When I'm at a customer's house doing tree work, and they want to do clean up themselves I'll ask if they have a saw. The answer a lot of the time is brand x and "blade" size x or just it's a 16 inch.

Yep, model and cc don’t matter, just the “blade” size.

Brand recognition and having good local dealer support are the main reasons Stihl and Husqvarna lead the market. Over the years I've used the Dolmar "dealer locator" feature on their website.....only to find that most are no longer in business. To derail further if you go to Charleston SC you will see mostly Yamaha outboards. Go to Florida and it's mostly Mercury with a stray Yamaha. Both make great outboards with their own strengths and weaknesses. It's just a guess but I think it has a lot to do with the dealers in those respective locations. A great location, good mechanics, and knowable staff go a long way.

I'm a huge fan of Dolmar. Unfortunately most homeowners or professionals can't find a strong reliable dealer presence near them. Or have never run one, and have no idea how great their products are. I had high hopes when Makita bought Dolmar that it would bring the brand(s) into the spotlight.

I know there are great guys out there that have successful Dolmar dealerships. Just wish there were more like them.

Yes..
Had a fool argue with me that his ms290 would out cut my 395xp... I tried to explain what kind of saw he had and what kind of saw the 395 was but he knew better than me...

I just asked the dude I see every day at the gas station that cuts a little firewood here and there to name 3
chainsaw brands..stihl/husqvarna/poulan were his picks..

But makita will have big success launching a 90cc saw..lol.
