We had a young guy that came in every day smelling like a skunk from smoking weed. Two of us tried telling him that he needed to knock it off. The other guy was a little nicer than I. I started out by showing him my fingernails that were black and falling off from getting smashed from 4 inch solid round stock. I explained that it was caused by my own negligence but if he ever caused me to to be injured I would have a major issue. I also told him if dropped a frame or injured himself/others he would be immediately piss tested. It did not phase him. Anytime there was an issue there a piss test was done. If you refused you were fired. If you failed you were fired. He never got it.

This will be the fourth or fifth belt shredding to pieces on this mill.
The reddish stuff around the pulleys and belt IS the belt.
Curious to find out how much longer it can withstand.
The belt has been replaced fairly recently as You can see by it being very clean.

Reported it yesterday, have been told "Just keep the mill running".
'Mkay!!!

looks like this should be labeled “i work FOR dumb people”. hard to believe that they dont get the value of a little preventative maintenance.

i cant for the life of me figure out why the companies that are so profit driven and want to squeeze as much production as possible cannot figure out that preventative maintainence is way cheaper than repairing something that is broken. my company is the worst at it. not only do we not take the time for preventative, we also dont have a plan for when chit brakes and chit brakes all the time. its juzt like every day is the first day......we have been in business for 160 years

We took a 240hp mid range magnum tractor in on trade. The hydraulic charge pump snapped its drive shaft. The mechanic before me has replaced the pump 3 times in 200 hours. I split the tractor and found the bolts that hold the pump drive bearings backed out. $10,200 in just pumps.

Sounds like the dual power unit in one of my Ford tractors.

The neighbor bought a pretty clean Allis Chalmers 7000 open station from an estate. It had sat in the shed a good long spell. It ran and drove fine but the hydraulic pump was bad. In trying to locate a pump it was discovered in Allis Chalmers great thought process they put a unique pump on the 7000. It was different from all other models. The price of a pump basically exceeded the price paid for the tractor

We have a red belly 7000, and we had to rebuild the hydro pump last year. I want to say the parts were like $200-250 for the rebuild kit? I didn't think it was too bad.

The whole thing might be a different story, though.

I snapped the red e-stop mushroom off this chip conveyor last year. Had to roll my toolbox past the machine and I caught the edge of the button with my cabinet riser.... But I went and filled out a maintenance request immediately instead of leaving it for the next guy.

Is it humid over by you this time of year? You think the moisture in your compressed air, short term, will cause any issues?
If the tank bottom valve is left closed for long enough water accumulation causes the compressor to operate short times to reach shutoff pressure, boss " what's wrong here" co-worker opened drain in bottom of tank. More than half tank of condensation. Push broom used to move much muddy water out the door and clean up a lotta dust grinding etc onto sidewalk.

when i worked a small local coastal dry dock. it was the norm every day. the boss/owner supplied the drugs and we just worked and worked. then we would go to the bar and drink at say 11pm til they closed and then back for more drugs and work. we would often stay up for many days. then we would all crash in boats. for a day or two. then we would all go for a decent breakfast, lines for breakfast desert and start the whole cycle over.
You were on the coast of Florida getting Juan Valdez's special blend right off the boat, amirite? Buddy of mine did the same thing when he lived there.

This was a late model black belly. There was not a bunch made. I am not sure if they were different or not. The guy that bought it and other tractors is a diesel mechanic. He runs a shop on the next farm south. He just said he could not find a rebuild kit for it. I cannot speak to how hard he looked. I was going to buy the tractor and put a complete pump on it but the cost was the killer.

I have an Allis Chalmers here that is a bit different than many. It is 190XT gas. Yes there are some around but this one is a snap coupler model. By the time the 190's were being built the majority of folks had went to 3PT

As far as I know, the hydraulic pump wasn't among the changes from maroon belly to black belly, but it could have been. The 7000 has always been the odd duck of the 7000 series anyway - it's really a prettied-up 200 at its core, and the 7010-7080 are completely different.

I wanted Dad to buy a 7000 series years ago. We tried buying a nice clean 7040 but it went a bit too high. Next was a super clean 7020 but that went too high and also was not going to have enough horsepower. Lastly went travelled about 3 hours south to look at the big dog 7080. We looked ahead of the sale but on sale day I had to work so I knew Dad going alone he would never buy it. Now they are so old that you cannot afford to fix them. One neighbor still has a 7000 black belly that they bought new. It never get used now but he will never sell it. He also has a worn out Cat D6 that his kids will turn in Toyota's later.
