The dude at my side job shop finally got the boot after 5 no call/no shows last week. At this point it's just an administrative thing, getting him off the schedule and out of the system. I wish him well, but I think his life crested when he was married and finally got a house of his own. My guess is he will live in his parents home the rest of his days working at McD's and other bottom tier employers. If he turns his life around that's great and I'm happy for him, but I don't see it happening. Especially having child support payments for two kids, Kentucky does not play when it comes to that.

Just because he is making child support payments does not mean his life is doomed. There are many divorced men and women making child support payments and leading very productive lives. My mother left the night before my first day of 4th grade. Dad told her take anything you want except two things ..... those two boys. She left and that was it. She was productive and worked 7 days a week until she remarried.

I guess I should add we stayed farming with Dad and he helped Mom out financially until she remarried. I know to some that seems odd

I agree with you, however this guy doesn't seem to have the good decision-making skills that will cause that to happen. I could go on and on with examples to show how that is the case.

Melted/fried collet , most likely it was not tightened sufficiently.
Several dozens more like this in the "spare collet drawer".

And I guess other manufacturers have employed dumb people too.
Atorn 16.0 - 15.0mm collet mislabelled as 12.0 - 11.0mm.
That is a 12.0mm end mill in the collet.

Having something similar happen every now and then.
Drill chuck key left in the drill chuck by operator, then turning the drill press on - that is a flying object You don't want to stand in it's way.

At least it weighs less than a chuck wrench left in a lathe chuck... some people never learn until it's too late

Speaking of lathe chuck wrenches...

Here is what happens when the resident gym rat gets on the end of a big chuck wrench and pulls with all he has. Had a pretty good fall when it let loose on him, fell over backwards with his boots in the air. He is lucky he didn't hit his head

Someone needs to get a grip on how a chuck gets a grip

"The mill bit has to be pulled out to the max in order to reach the workpiece!"

No, You dumb Fck!
You just need to utilize a longer tool holder.

The everyday idiocy at my workplace is shocking!

There was merely 1/2" of tool in the clamping collet.
This crap damages the collets and causes tooling to break prematurely - double points for twice the damage.

In our shop that conversation would go something like "but the black one doesn't have a pull stud, So I can't use it..."

So install a pull stud and get on with it!

People.... somedays you just can't handle them

Even worse in my case, the black 200mm one was still in storage with a ton of dust on its white cardboard box.
I had to peck on my shift leader to get one, and he didn't even look at the right spot - I recognized the cardboard box and pointed it out.

So, we have these in storage when in fact we need them all spread out in use between a dozen machines.

No worries, we'd be palls!

For whatever reason I can walk up to pups that their owners claim to be vicious and stranger unfriendly.
I know I will get bit at one point, but it comforts me that no pup has bit me yet.

Lovely pup! 🥰
im one of those dog people too.
