i dont know if i posted this already or not. if i did my appologies. we have a polaris buggy at work that we uses to drive back and forth on the lead which is roughly 1600'. It gets driven back and forth 24hrs a day. It is a rental and this one is gas. when it needs gas a manager needs to come and either take it up to the card lock place a few blocks away or fill the gas can more on the gas can in a minute. when it gets to 1/4 tank we start telling them we need gas....the other morning we said the buggy is out of gas. we said this to our yard controller he is our direct supervisor kind of. he IMs the manager. the managers reply is what do you mean it out? he says back its out, empty, no gas. the manager how out is out will it start can they drive it for a while? he says what part of out dont you get its OUT. manager the last time they said it was out it had a quarter of a tank. he says back no they said it needed gas not out yet. so this manager comes up there and gets in the buggy and proceeds to try and start it for five minutes......i went out there and said do you think we are *f-wording lying to you its out of gas. he then says there is a gas can in that shed down there. we said yep there sure is but it has diesel in it. its pretty common knowledge that gas cans are red and diesel cans are yellow. there is diesel in a red gas can. so he drives off. he comes back in half hour with a yellow diesel can with gas in it.....to which i say did you really fill a diesel can with gas instead of taking the gas can and dumping the diesel into one of the many diesel operated equipmet sitting everywhere. the response well i didnt want any of the residue from the diesel left in the can to be dumped into the buggy......WHAT? so the used diesel can with diesel residue is fine but not the other can......you really are an idiot i said its no wonder this place is always in melt down mode because all of you people are completely retarded. so now we have a yellow diesel can with unleaded gas written in sharpie on it and a red gas can with diesel written on it........the icing on the cake there is a thousand gallon gas tank that is empty all it needs is a recertification right next to a thousand gallon diesel tank that is full and in working order. we had a diesel buggy for a long time that we could just fuel up as needed. all of the yard vehicles that run on gas have to be driven to a gas station instead of recertifying the gas tank.........i work with dumb people
Its Never to late, to give up.

I have been assigned to man the beast this week.

So, while cleaning it at shift end I found one of the doors E-Stop shrooms broken.
You can clearly see that someone stepped on to the cabin to the right of the E-Stop switch and most likely knocked it out.
Gravity kept it in the hole.
Nice!

Then while shutting the machine down I went to shut off the compressed air supply and the dehumidifier.
Well, the first shift idiot manning the machine next to the beast pulled the dehumidifiers power cord and plugged in his cordless drills battery for charging.
FYI, both machines get their compressed air from that same dehumidifier.

The utter idiocy of the latter both amazes & disgusts me.

I snapped the red e-stop mushroom off this chip conveyor last year. Had to roll my toolbox past the machine and I caught the edge of the button with my cabinet riser.... But I went and filled out a maintenance request immediately instead of leaving it for the next guy.

Is it humid over by you this time of year? You think the moisture in your compressed air, short term, will cause any issues?

At my workplace masking damage and not noting the same having the next operator think he broke it is common.

Our compressed air contains a lot of moisture.
With the compressors being near one end of the companies terrain and the mills on the other a lot of the moist settles as water in the pipes.
The parts of the machines that require compressed air are rather sensitive to wear (spindle tool clamping mechanism), water in said air breaks down the thin lubricant/oil film and causes oxidation, rough movement of the parts, and eventually seize up.

So far several machines required an overhaul of their tool clamping mechanisms, though not exclusively due to moisture in the compressed air but it played a notable role long term.

Every so often the operator opens the main shutoff air valve to his machine but fails to turn on the dehumidifier (which needs to be turned on first anyway, it is an A/C unit and its compressor needs some time to build pressure and cool down) - that first gust of air heading to the machine always contains a splash of water that settled in the pipe.

I get emergency calls for a gas station with all pumps down. I get there, and someone has unplugged the box for pump communications to plug in their cellphone charger. The fact that they can't put two and two together is the worst part. Do they think it was a coincidence that the pumps went down, just as they plugged in their phone? Lol. $112.50/hr door to door to unplug a phone charger. Lol

We had one of the assistant managers leave the entire store with a part-time cashier for an hour to do God-only-knows what. He had to call the main manager who was off at the time at home to get his override number to ring up a return.

There's supposed to be 2 people in the store at all times, and one of them has to be a keyholder. The part time guy couldn't even lock the door to keep customers out until the assistant manager returned.

To give you some context, you need a manager's override to do virtually anything other than a normal transaction. Returns, exchanges, ordering parts in, etc- all need a manager's override.

He should get fired for it, but we'll see what our no-balls district manager does.

Well I won't have to work with that assistant manager anymore. He was at our store when I started, then got transferred to another store a couple months ago, but was still filling in when we needed coverage. Main store manager said he's not going to have fill in for us anymore, if he doesn't get canned over it, which I'm told is being discussed.

Coworker: My machine got stuck in a tool change!

Me, resets the machines ATC (Automatic Tool Changer) not giving it any second thoughts as it happens sometimes.
5 minutes later, stuck again, same tool.
Clamping error, I even heard the loud CLANK when it got stuck (machine right next to mine)!

Took a closer look, coworker inserted the tool 180° wrongly turned into the machines tool magazine loading it.
The tool magazine and tool changer are not tool orientation reliant , BUT THE SPINDLE IS!
Turned wrong way around the tool can not physically fit into the spindle, but the machine didn't know the tool got loaded wrongly and tried to shove it into the spindle anyway resulting in multiple errors.

NICE!
