Dan, the old settings (before limiters) were one turn out for each screw. When I put a dp muff cover and HD-2 filter on a 440/460/460 and have to pull the limiters my starting settings (and often I can just leave them there) are 3/4 on the Lo, and 1 + 1/8 on the Hi. Those settings also seem to work well on the 660s with dp covers.

Good job Al. The saw sounds great.

I did a 044/046 hybrid over the weekend. 98/118/80 .025 from the squish, with a .020 clearance. I'm gonna have to drill the carb. Its happy spot is 16,200.

Those are the numbers I used to be @fourpaws with in the 460 build off.....:)
I think we had 180 or 190 psi.

I'd love to see a video of it Randy.

A short intake lets you get away with less blowdown because you have a higher primary compression.

So, when you give it more blowdown time, you can add in a little more intake duration. Everything works together.

The toughest thing about all this to me is not getting fixated on an idea, then taking that too far. I've done that very thing several times over the years.
Do you have a steep angle on your intake to get down to 80 without goin through?

I've got 17* BD and 44* Cranking compression.

You've got 20* BD and 38* CC.

Do you use a formula, or just shoot from the hip with this?

You have more case pressure than usual because of the Hybrid though.

Sorry Al. I missed this post yesterday. I wasn't online much. Boxed up saws, and replaced my fuel pump in the old truck.

I used to use a bit of a formula. For a long time I've figured we needed about 40° of crankcase compression. I've strayed from that some.....but I stay close still. On this saw I lightened the piston quite a lot, and worked over the lowers more than I do on a "worksaw". Being a hybrid, I knew I could get away with taking more from the bottom end. I'm not sure if it's really strong/faster/special/etc. Its on its way to PA tomorrow. I told Mike it needed a good chain, and where to tune it for cants. He has plenty of working saws, so I built him a faster sorta saw.

Sorta.....but not real steep.
