I dunno Matty, I have two 372s one is bone stock and one I bought from Jeff (@Carbine ) procarbine2k1 over on AS a few years ago. I ran Jeffs a few times and could not get it to idle at all. So I put it away figuring it was a bad carby or seals or any other malady. No biggie. It was a used saw, and if you buy used you better be able to wrench on them some....well I hate wrenching on husky's.
Long story short one day I decided to "fix" the idle....by running it till it blew so I would have to go through the entire saw....it didn't blow, started to idle well and started running like a mean sob....needless to say, my MS 440 sat on the shelf...

Then Al says...."hey I just cut some band out of a 440 and man that thing really woke up.." You got a 440 right ?...and the rest, they say, is History....

And now Al says I can't have my saw back unless I pick it up at Dans GTG in CT next month....I think that's "saw napping " isn't it ? And I have to bring the 372 to run against it...

Somewhere in this long winded story is a big smoothie kiss and a thank you to Al.

Anytime you want to sell it back, I'm open arms. I didn't realize it was giving you trouble either (I would have taken it back or made right in a heartbeat), only thing it gave me was a small loss in hearing lol.
Glad it is working well for you now

No you can't have it back ....(.not for the price I paid anyway) :D

Saw was a bargain and if it had a few warts the money I should have paid would cover them....nothing to complain about.
I am gonna tear it down some day to find out what the heck is going on in there to make it so much more powerful then the other. It has a "madsens performance "sticker on it... I hear stickers make them better ....

Lol, it is one of the best running 372's I've had. No doubt. I might have sold it cheaper than I care to remember too lol.
Put a degree wheel on it, there might be a tad bit of shenanigans going on in there, but I think it's mostly stock (might have a 75cc jug on it), I'm not positive.

Angelo, looking forward to finally meeting you (and seeing your Dr brother again) at the GTG!

Also looking forward to seeing your 440, and will introduce you to my 3 044/440s! And Jeff will also bring one, and Eric, and soon, you won't remember what a 372 looks like (Actually, there are usually plenty of them there also).

It will be fun!

I've actually never seen a 372 at a gtg. I think when I pull the 7900 out they all get put back in the trucks?:roto2nuse:

Angelo, I have a few AM DP covers here. Gonna get one set up, we can see if the saw runs better with it at the GTG.

Your muffler is more restricted than @Jchin saw. He had a DP front and no screens. His saw had no port work, the same timing advance, and seemed to be more rev happy. Would be nice if he came to the GTG. Don't think he's too far from it.

I'm leaving it alone. Don't forget to bring the dawgs for the saw to the GTG. I bet it does better with a 7 pin as well.

Funny story about this saws first startup.

I've been fortunate to not have any major mishaps with the saws I've built.

So, I start this saw with the L at factory setting and the H set a bit fat.

The saw pops, I rev it, it stalls at idle. Won't fire unless the saw is choked, even warm. Start it again, goose it, hear a metallic "clackity clack" and the saw stalls.

I can't start the saw on the fast idle setting. I roll the saw back and forth and hear metal moving around. Heart skips a beat.

I pull the muffler cover and keep my eyes closed. The piston is perfect. WTF?

I pull all 4 covers to find that the flywheel threw a fin. The L screw was way out of adjustment. Even though the factory calls for 1/4 out, it wanted 2 full turns out. Idles perfectly, doubt a vac leak. Now starts as it should.

So I averted disaster. Funny in retrospect.

I think the saw needs to be leaned out a bit still. It's at 14,600 in the video and does sound fat.

Al if they say 1/4 turn isn't that because the limiters won't let it turn in all the way. I'm sure you deleted them if they weren't.
I think the ones with no limiters have different settings marked on them.

thanks Al,
Wonder if the old 044 tin can muffler will bolt on easy for a comparison too.

Nice.

Ya think this saw needs more intake?

A short intake lets you get away with less blowdown because you have a higher primary compression.

So, when you give it more blowdown time, you can add in a little more intake duration. Everything works together.

The toughest thing about all this to me is not getting fixated on an idea, then taking that too far. I've done that very thing several times over the years.
