Am 360 recoil vs. oem 034. Am won't work right for m4 034 case.

In fact I don't really recommend am recoils for this series.

How can you tell where the saw is built, other than what it says on the recoil cover tag?

I believe most serial numbers that start with "1" are German made. "2" are usually US built.

My 036 is an older one with the metal tag riveted on the recoil housing. It is so worn that I can't tell where it says it was made. The serial number does start with a 2 however.

I have searched images on google and found a few 036's with "Made in Germany" on the recoil cover tag, but that could be a case of someone swapping recoils or tags.

How can you tell where the saw is built, other than what it says on the recoil cover tag?

Iirc the first number in the SN will be a 1,2 or 3
1=Germany
2=US
3=Brazil

Carbs, air filters, air filter housings, tank vents, clutches, clutch drums/needle bearings/rims-- more 1125 nuances.

For a while there I grabbed any 034-360 parts I could find locally. They really are one of Stihl's best.

My go-to rebuild for a great firewood saw is a burned up 034 or 036. Solid AM support (Meteor pistons, Hyway p/cs were "ok"), only a few oddballs parts nla but still around.

Are you going to show piston differences too? I just pulled an 036 pro KS cylinder and it has the "winged" piston skirt. Most of the 360's I have seen have a normal straight skirt.

My 034 had 2 muffler gaskets and a spacer, the bar is front adj, and the case will not accommodate switching,
and the rod is NOT skeletonized.

I love the 360 you did for me, but find the 044/440 much easier to work on (especially the oiler) and easier to make run great w/o any porting (or cylinder work, just delete the base gasket).

They both make real nice all around saws.

The 036 rods are not as classy this is a red lever with a meteor piston. 036 This one is an 036Pro. both are US made.

As far as the mufflers go....

I had an all original 034AV with the spacer between the muffler & jug.
Also had an 036 style muff cover.
I still have the rear muffler half from that saw.
