We had lots of rain here too. Was dark till about noon. Sorta lazed around half the day and then went to the shop and sorted through chainsaw parts. Trying to see what all I need to build up some 1130 series saws. I discovered I have most of what I need to make 4 of them. Will need more engine parts though.
Had a productive morning, cut 4 trees down for next year's fire wood, the two biggest being tall Black Birch with bases of 20" & 24". Four of my saws got a good workout, the 044 w/28", the MS440 with 20", the MMWS 362 w/20" and the Dr. Al 026 for the limbing. Boy, after you use that little saw for the limbing, the larger saws just seem so heavy! It spoils you fast!
Luckily I had most of the cutting done when I rocked the 28" bar. Was a rock high up on the brush pile I did not see! So I spent a good deal of the afternoon fixing that square file chain.
044mmws disintegrated the sprocket cover washer!
Dr. Al 026 is wearing an 8 pin 325 sprocket.
Log splitter got some use, til the chain drive roller chain broke.
Replaced a broken pull cord on my boys saw, then taught him how to sharpen chains with a file and guide. He did pretty good. Too wet to go try them but im sure they will be good.
Milled out 5 Stihl 1127 mufflers. Now I have to clean them up and do the cover mod as well. Now that I'm going to be home for a period of time, I listed some modded mufflers on eBay. Haven't sold on there for a long time.
Finished welding the log arch. Just have to pick up a couple hooks to hook my log chains into. Some how managed to drop the tongs on one finger, I was plenty awake after that. Had to hold a ice cold beer against it to keep the swelling down. secure the log.
Took the 7900 apart, seems the piston could use replaced, the cylinder cleaned up very nicely. Miller Mod Saws took care of getting a piston, great guy Carl. Look forward to doing more business with him in the future. Will have this 1 back together in a couple days. Then it will be for sale soon.
After a particularly difficult tree takedown 28 months ago, I retired from climbing trees.
Today, I unretired myself. The motivation? I'm cheap and didn't want to pay someone to do takedowns on a number of very tall loblolly pines. So up I went. I have 7 trees to take down at one of our rental properties and this was the most critical and largest. I got completely thrashed when I topped it as I didn't have room to let it fall in the clear (house in the way) so dumped the top into some other trees and it sorta slid over me on the way down. I've got scratches on my arms, chest, back and probably other places. I was chunking the tree on the way down and finally ran out of energy and just came down with about 35'-40' of stem still standing. I'll fell it after I get some of the others out of the way. I figure if I can do a couple trees per week (and heal in between, lol) I'll save over a grand. Still not ready to bid jobs that require climbing.
And then serviced the truck (oil change, grease job, tightened emergency brake cable), and then spun up a couple of chainsaw chains. This evening I'm working on a jigsaw puzzle.
