Are they a scourge for you? My cousin, who grew up near Carlisle, said the groundhogs destroyed many an acre of crop.I saw my ground hog came back this spring. I figured an idiot neighbor shot it. I didn’t see it last year but my peach tree didn’t produce so it might have been hanging out in the thick stuff. Everyday once the peaches start dropping it’ll be out there chomping away.View attachment 488749 It’s under the glider
You are in Illinois. Are they a scourge for you? My cousin, who grew up near Carlisle, said the groundhogs destroyed many an acre of crop.
There are not many here in Illinois, but the few around have been terrorized by dogs and coyotes.

That 430 is everything my x320 isn’tView attachment 488792View attachment 488793View attachment 488794
I now own a 1985 JD 430 with 26XX hrs, a 60" mower deck & a 54" 4-way hyd front blade... and a Bolens QT17
This 430 has meaning though, long story short: its one of two owned by a coworker (& good friend) who unfortunately passed away last year after a battle with C.
His wife still mows with the other 430 & I do the maintenance at zero cost to her.
They started to clean up the property & the son (who I work with) mentioned he wanted to sell this 430 & gave me 1st opportunity. We agreed on a fair price seeing it needs a lot of work & is basically unknown mechanical condition.
From what I can remember this 430 has been parked for probably 8-10 years (supposed overheating issues). it's all been garage kept but it definitely needs work. It has 3/4 tank of what use to be fuel... so thats first on the to-do list... 1st round of parts are on the way.
as for the Bolens I was told to take it, it was in an out-building & has an unknown story but it's got a Kohler KT17 Series 1 that might be "worth" saving.
for a L & G tractor, 430's are stout little machines... & it matches my 955That 430 is everything my x320 isn’t

I'd like to put a valve on the tank or fuel line of my x320 to drain it for the winter and sometimes take gas for other equipment. Haven't really searched much for the best option.View attachment 488842
pulled the seat & rear fenders off before work. found some of the wiring unhooked & wires smashed/pinched.
I'm replacing all of the fuel feed & return lines, pickup screen & filter, & sending unit O-ring. I should have that stuff by Wednesday. I bought a new fuel gauge too (surprisingly cheap), but I may try to put a new lense on the original one.
I'm hoping the tank isn't too crusty since its quite full. Still going to flush it with kerosene or brakleen, then change the fuel filter after a few hours of running it. But I've got a long ways to go.

That's probably the smarter way to go about it. I'd like to be able to cut the fuel to the motor too so maybe a valve that does both.I'd vote to put one in the fuel line, easy to access/service/repair if it started to leak.
They don’t bother me. It’s mostly woods by me so there aren’t many and they dig holes somewhere that i never have to go around. It’s Mennonite mayhem up here so everything gets shot, every dog gets bred to death and trees are bad so I let my yard be the sanctuary. My neighbor said she is dying in her house just to keep the twenty acres no hunting as long as possible. I’m not against hunting but there’s so much pressure on the wildlife it’s ridiculous. Are they a scourge for you? lot of Amish around me, I enjoy seeing the horse & buggies drive by my house. it really bothers me (but doesn't surprise me) that people don't respect them on the roads, they barely get over to pass them and fly by.It’s Mennonite mayhem up here so everything gets shot, every dog gets bred to death.
Could you elaborate?being greedy.
Could you elaborate?
It’s the opposite around here. You are more likely to have a bad deal with the Amish than a Mennonite. Years ago it wasn’t that way but the younger and more moderate generations are pretty good. They taught me most of my two cycle knowledge, a lot about finances, a lot of fab work etc. Those guy took more time to try to get us on the right path than anyone else. My buddy got a job managing a stihl shop and our local dealer showed him how they operated to help him operate his shop better. But they still have to shoot everything that moves. We have what we call Joe Wenger Mennonites south of me that don’t drive cars and have steel wheels tractors but watch tv and have electricity. They are a good time. They lack the pacifist mindset and will grab a hold of someone. Out of towners get a surprise the guy on a bicycle they just ran off the follows them into a parking lot ready to go."greedy" might not be the word to use, but in general they tend to want to scam/rip people off.
I'm not saying ALL Mennonite's are bad, but much like the rest of society you have good & bad.
