Show off your muffler mods

I've had problems a few times with saws that had too much muffler opening. Often idle or throttle response issues, and sometimes a lack of torque and / or increase fuel consumption w/o any addl power. More is not always better, especially on non ported saws.

A timing advance may also help.

Often smaller openings on the side of the muffler provide nice increases in power w/o negative side effects.

On saws w/o wrap handles a hole or two (1/4 - 3/8") can be drilled on the right side w/o any deflector and you won't get hit by the blast.

That 2 pipe one reminds me of the DozerDan muffin. He did 'em that way all the time, till about the time I gave him a saw. Then I got 1 gill opening.

Seems it’s all about 1.125”. I’d have to measure

Would be interesting to see different length pipes on the dyno. I know on rails (dragsters) they pay a great deal of attention to the length of the pipes to try to get them in sync with the exhaust pulses.

I'm guessing it may change where peak power is, or broaden the power curve.

It’s about 25” on a two-stroke. Kind of tough to leave that much pipe.

Longer pipes are more restrictive, shorter ones less

I just went through a phase of pipe enthusiasm. I like the way they look and sound. Unfortunately, I was running my 385 about 6 weeks ago and caught a tree on fire at the pipe outlet. Not sure how to move the pipe back farther.

But if your wife is any good, she should get me more than one size so I could quit using conduit for the big ones
