View attachment 294009 This is probably the worst I’ve done actually after looking at it. When I cut with the grinder 60 degrees chop and 30 degrees offset as intended it cuts like a normal chain no wow at all. Cut the rakers down as much as the saw will pull and still no wow. This one I put the grinder @ 40 and gave it just a light chop at the edge and rakers way down. Still no wow.
Your gonna want more hook than that, try handfiling it and pushing down more with the file. Or just change the stop on the grinder. You want to get the gullet.

This is kinda what I shoot for on my round hand filed full chisel chain. 25* top plate angle 10* tilt (guesstimate with my elbow tilted down lol). I set rakers to the saws power by hand a few swipes at a time. FB2C3338-DD54-4547-9061-E71470C18C2A.png Most of the time I file my saw out in the woods on my tailgate. Works for me. YMMV.

Thanks for the tips. I’ll work on it some more.

I’m surprised my saw even pulled that last one. It burned a tank of gas in 3 cuts lol

Did a little testing with different sprockets and chains on this 357. .325 is definitely smoother.
My conclusion is 3/8 would be great for bucking cuts
.325 8T would be a great choice for limbing and small wood.
.325 7T would be a good choice for everything. Smooth, still pretty fast and you can lean a little heavier on the saw if you felt the need

Get the file and clean out the red part. Then file normally.

This looks like maybe full chisel 3/8" chain? A 25° angle stays sharper a little longer than a 30° top plate angle.
Ok cool I will try that. I really appreciate it.

Plenty of WOW in that picture...lots of good advice given already, with pictures of excellent examples. As low as those rakers appear to be, it might be too late.

Big blade lives on my 395 where it belongs lol! And I call BS on the upside down blade because I know damn well it’s right side up on your Aussie upside down phone;)
Yeah but then the saw is upside down and all the wood chips fall upwards.
It’s so confusing

I’m gonna start fresh with a new chain. I think that one is too far gone lol

Rakers too low is why I’m sure it burned a tank of fuel in 3 cuts. So past maybe.040” below the kerf not going to gain any speed?

If you take out the gullet and then take some off the cutter you may be able to bring it back into being useful again.
The chain being dull is what burned the fuel.

Like RI Chevy said, the cutter is salvageable. .040 is way too much imo. I know of no instance where that much is appropriate; maybe a bike saw or harvester. No, it won't cut faster at .040, it will be very grabby and annoying as hell. You have a lot of hard wood in your area so .025 is where I would start, .030 at most. The depth of the raker does increase as the cutter gets smaller, but that is another discussion that makes my head hurt.

I would get the cutter right and try some test cuts before I trashed the chain.
