Yes- however if it was an RB swap it wouldn't be a 4 cylinder
He edited his post, it didn’t say 2.0 4 cylinder when I read it. I see it now, am a Nissan guy for years, my high school truck was a 2wd 720 with a web cam porting shaved head and a pacesetter header, was a fun truck in the early 90’s

Don't we love a good off topic.

The Nissan heads also responded well to porting:)

Whenever you get a spare moment, it's always good to watch the way the R32 ate the opposition at the Bathurst 1000, Australia in 1992

I can tell I'm older than you guys, don't even know those engine s, but:

427 Ford for the win!!!

At NASCAR (in the mid to late 60s)

In the 1/4 mile (MT Funny Car, Gas Rhonda, etc)

And, it won the 24 hours of Lemans 1966,67,68 and 69! (In the GT-40s)! In fact, in 66, they finished 1, 2 and 3!

No other engine was competitive is all three of those categories!

Never to old to appreciate the work that goes into making some of these inlines perform Mike.

Hey, I had one ... my 1985 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe! 2.3 Liter w/turbo. With the 5 speed stick I averaged 26 MPG with it, and it was faster than the factory 302 T Bird!

Not my fastest car by any means, but I did like it a lot, and it was Silver with dark molding, a nice looker!

I put 247,000 miles on it, and it still ran when I gave it to my Nephew.

Some family members drive powerful cars, all I hear is, it needs new drive shaft, cv joints clutch, flywheel and such, with power comes responsibility,
a heavy foot is not conducive to keeping that power at safe levels, meanwhile
my under powered car has gone thought two road tests in a row without spending a cent on it, well I was charged for air, €2.00 at an air dispensing machine, never thought I would be buying air, changed times.
Usually performance comes at the cost of durability in saws and cars but do not say that to the guys trying to do their own performance boost. It is the same with guns and other things performance gurus get their hands on.

On a car you need to do a whole systems performance upgrade. Jump up the hp on the engine than you need a better tranny, driveshaft and rear end (and suspension).

My older brothers and all their friends were serious "gearheads". My one brother had a Roadrunner that he had big dollars in with a 440 that had been worked over by an engineering firm that worked on race cars. It had the big racing slicks etc. It was built for the drag strip. Ask him what he had done in the car and he would go into an hour long rant about pistons, cam, carbs, gears, valves, blueprinting, engine mounts, crankshaft, block webbing, and on and on. He finally got to the point he figured he would kill himself in it and changed over to dealing in heavy equipment.
My other brother had a 413 max wedge that was pretty peppy. He became a heavy equipment mechanic.
A lot of guys go for performance gains and do not do a whole system approach and blow up each weak link as they go.
As long as they have fun, it is their money and time. I like performance but favor durability more.

i used to work for a guy that worked at ford areospace in the 60's he is an engineer of sorts he was recruited before he could even go to college. He work on all of the appolo missions and lots of top secret military stuff. Anyway they came to him one day and asked him to design an engine for racing applications it was a 1000hp ford 427 the order was for four engines. He did wat they asked hed made the plans and sent them off to be manufactured at the ford engine plant. when the order arrived there were five crates that showed up. when he met with his bosses their answer was we dont know what you are talking about we only see four crates. they knew that he had a 1957 tbird port hole hard top convertable that he raced. they told him that there wasnt any paperwork on that fifth engine. when he got it home and opened the crate there was a note that said thank your for you we know you will put this to good use. he set a world record at the bonneville salt flats that held for many years he drove that car over 205mph. he is in his 80s now and in the process of restoring the car back to as street car as it had been gutted for weight

I actually heard of this same story/scenario when I was in Tech School in Bemidji, MN for High Performance Engine Machining! Small world!

now that is a small world. he is so smart it is just crazy. he built part of the moon rover and he designed and made the target that is a prizim that will reflect light straight back from any angle it is still what is used to measure the moons movements they shoot lasers at it. he told me that there are thjngs that he worked on in the 60s that are still secret and in use today that havent been released to the public yet. think about that 50 almost 60 years ago and still kept secret.

For Mike. HolmannMoody had a sale when NASCAR outlawed big blocks because of Bill Elliott dominance and set limit at 350cubes to help Chevy compete. They had lots of everything both FE and 385 series cheap. By the time I heard of it all was gone. I forgot to mention my 63 falcon 260 sprint convertible with built 289 and t handle 4 speed.

He sounds like a brilliant man. When I heard the story, it was more focused just on the engine program, not so much the man behind it. Back in that era, there was so much advancement in all things mechanical, some really creative minds came to light.

Neat story! I'm guessing he did work on the overhead cam 427 Ford motors that were banned at NASCAR but were used extensively in drag racing, including Mickey Thomson's Funny car, the first one to break the 200 MPH 1/4 mi barrier.

Ford never put that motor in a production car. They advertised the single 4 bbl version as having 616 Hp, and there was a dual quad version, but most racers used the injectors. My wife's cousin (on Long Island) has one with the velocity stacks and injectors. He purchased it from a MT shop after Mickey was murdered.

I believe Shelby built 3 AC Cobras with that motor, one of which was purchased by Bill Cosby and featured in the jokes on his album. They had insane power to weight.

I hear what you are saying about durability, but with the saws, venting the muffler to make them run cooler generally increases durability.

If the engine is done right, it will hold up quite well. My 427 (I put in the 70 Boss Body) had cross bolted mains and a side oiler block (all the oil went to the bearings; you could not run a hydraulic cam in it). The Ford drive train with the top loader 4 speed and 9" rear were also rock solid, especially with street tires.

My 2006 Mustang lasted 129,000 miles with the SC (not a bad run), and I then upgraded to a motor with Eagle crank, rods and pistons. My tranny and rear are original with over 155,000 miles, so I don't think reliability has been much of an issue. The HD Steeda clutch has been holding up well. I have 550 Hp and can get 24 MPG on the highway, so it is not a bad combo! I can also run about 12 flat with legitimate street tires with a 320 tread wear rating (and great in the rain).

I carefully selected the Whipple Twin Screw SC due to its drivability and the fact that (at the time) Ford Performance did the tune, and it is 50 State emissions legal.

I put Blizzak tires on in the winter and drive it all year long. Works for me!
