Bought this saw to replace my 395 for milling, out of the box I was a little disappointed to be frank.
I did a couple things to make it a little more fun to use and more reliable for milling.
air filter
Not the best setup cause it was passing particulates, I didnt want any dirt in the engine if I could help it. So i took the flock filter and ran a thin layer of RTV black on the sealing edge of both sides. I worked it in and ran it smooth with my finger. Let dry and used grease to make a good seal. This shot of the intake horn is after two tanks today, extremely clean air going in now
Theres some gunk near the top cause some sawdust fell in when i took the top off. If you look down into the horn it is clean
next was the coil, got an unlimited china one off of ebay, I believe it was a 272 coil. If i could find an OEM one I will probably swap it out. But it is working fine. Combine this with the carb mod from mastermind and you can now tune the saw properly. I set mine at about 10.4K or so, seems to run well with the muffler mod you will see here shortly.
next is the adjustable carb. Mastermind sold me this and he did a very nice job. The air horn must be modified in order to accept the adjustable high jet screw, uses an allen key instead of a slotted screw driver. This is a lousy shot but you can see the high jet and some of air horn removed to accept it. When you buy this you get a brand new walbro carb to replace your stock one. Thanks mastermind this is the bread and butter of this saw IMO
