Gotta love the easy ones
Sure is a bunch of crap in there , good to hear its running again,Got the new pto seal, and that didnāt fix it! So I reluctantly pulled apart the primer/pump and wow! The pump is like a carb, so weird! Andā¦. The inlet screen was completely clogged, like Iāve never seen an inlet filter clogged! Lol.View attachment 426555
So after that, the primer bulb started to function correctly, and the saw runs correctly, I believe! Lol
Not sure where that stuff comes from. It could be inside the filters or inside the lines, like industrial dust from sitting for awhile. I have also heard there are metal shavings in some of the fuel we buy nowadays so many of the newer filters are of a smaller micron rating. The early 572 was plagued with the same issues. After a couple gallons of fuel, the carb screen was plugged solid with brown dust, dirt, or rustTime for maintenance, I agree. But it doesnāt make a difference, new and the most advanced technology, or the old and beastly. If the fuel filter was letting that much dirt past, any saw, new tech or old school would have caught it a fuel inlet screen. Provided some smarty didnāt remove it previously!
The only difference is that this saw has the fuel inlet screen at the primer bulb and many older ones have it in the carb.
A favourite acronym of the service and repair world is KISS. āKeep it simple, stupid.ā Good catch.
Usually the last thing you check is where the problem is found! Glad your saw is up n running again!
P.S. Was it an AM fuel filter!? Or had it just been changed, someone hoping for that to fix a problem? Maybe even run without a filter for a whileā¦?? Thatās just a lot of dirt in there! And I struggle to account for it, outside of some queer situationsā¦
Ha. Hit the like button, but let me clarify. I canāt like OEMās that let stuff like that through. I was liking your knowledge! Not sure where that stuff comes from. Did this saw have the orange Stihl filter on it? The orange one is twice as tight as the old white and black one. All newer mtronic saws and the 500i are supposed to have that filter to reduce the contamination that can wear out fuel solenoids ect. Supposed to change once a year.Got the new pto seal, and that didnāt fix it! So I reluctantly pulled apart the primer/pump and wow! The pump is like a carb, so weird! Andā¦. It had the Stihl white and black filter, was fine wood dust. Iām guessing they were cutting with the fuel can/jugs lid off and got some junk in there.Did this saw have the orange Stihl filter on it? My dad has a ms250 that did the same thing to the carb screen, cleaned it, and put a new fuel filter on it, dumped the gas and put my fuel in it, ran it for a while and gave it back to him, then he ran it out of the tank of gas that I put in it and put his fuel back in it and it clogged up again, my dad was storing his fuel jug without a cap next to his band saw!! The dust was so fine it didnāt clog the fuel filter just the screen
