The 460 jug says Stihl on it, but I can not find any indication who made it, am I looking in the wrong place? The 046-D jug says both Stihl & Mahle (on the opposite side) on it.

The 460 jug was probably made by Stihl. The Stihl-made jugs aren't all that great and jugs made by Mahle, Gilardoni, and Kolbenschmidt are usually much higher quality. Stihl tried moving those processes in house to save money.

I had some stihl made 084 cylinders back when. Could see the difference.

I don't think Stihl ever made any of the jugs for 084. From my service bulletins and microfiche- Mahle and Gilardoni seem to have been the manufacturers on those.

Another question for you guys with more experience than me:

All of the bearing seem very tight, except, when I turn the piston right to left, the bottom of the rod moves a bit, just enough to see. IS THIS A PROBLEM? I can not detect any movement up or down.

Also, Jeremy, you use that mandrel (I made one) inside the ports?

I figure some one must have made them for Stihl. My D jug says Mahle on it (in addition to Stihl), but the 460 jug just says Stihl (unless I don't know where to look).

Stihl started making their own cylinders for the pro saws starting with the 460 and 660. The Brazilian plant has been making the engine parts for the older models for years (MS-380, TS-760, 070, etc.) The cylinders and cranks for a lot of the consumer models are made at their plant in China.

I know side to side is OK, and I can not detect any up or down, but if I twist the piston, there is a little lower rod movement. I have no experience with how tight this should be.

If the rod has a little side-to-side movement, that's ok. You want absolutely no up and down movement.
I just replaced the crank in my 460 that when rotated the bottom connecring rod bearing felt notchy! Ran fine but noisy so I replaced it

Radial movement is okay.
Up and down is not....not even a 0.001"

Yes, the mandrel is good for cleaning carbon out of the exhaust port.
With coarse paper, it's good for removing casting flaws from the intake.

My offer still stands
