Did you get your 346 done Mike? I got mine done today:

Yes got about 6 tanks through it. Hopefully have time to try the 199 later this week. Did you put a 199 on this one?

Mine's got the regular 346 carb for now - I'll probably put it up for sale or trade. I'm gonna run it over the holidays at my mom's place and see how it does.

Did you do any grinding on the cylinder? You might not want to sell it lol.

Ah hell oh well. The swap is probably more work than it's worth anyways. I heard that 5th and 6th are about the same.

The big difference is low, 1st, 2nd are closer ratios than 1st, 2nd, 3rd in the 5 speed. The 6 just gets heavy loads moving from a stop eaiser. Normal driving with the 6 you drive it like a 5 speed.

Yeah I can get by with what I got lol. If I'm in a pinch I can use 4wheel low without the hubs locked. With 4.10 gears it would take a lot though.

There isn't anything actually secret about these . top break over torque wrench made for production .has to be preset .I have about 8 0r ten of these. Center Snap On dial,metric and standard .Bottom precision Facom beam metric .Set tool for a precision gauge .All freebies .find dumpster will dive .

True Al, as long as they are in calibration and the correct range for the job they will work! I like to make a pull on the calibration meter on the snap-on truck every once in a while, have heard lots of stories of engine failures from out of calibration torque wrench’s! I don’t have snap-0ns, but they nailed each number perfectly, my buddys snap on was 5 pounds off! And I really have a hard time time with the digital ones! I like to use a torque wrench in the middle of it range, and have 3 different sizes for my needs.

On the rod bolts several kart guys recommended loctight, but Terry says it’s not needed, just need a good torque wrench!

I'm not a fan of anything digital .For example I've got my dads' 0 to 1" Starett micrometers that are older than me and they are dead on .Dad had them carbide faced over 50 years ago or longer .I've also got my great grandfathers set that came over with him on the boat from England about the turn of the last century .Still dead nuts on .

On the subject of torquing bolts it was part of my job before I retired to calibrate the machinery that did the final work on automotive engines .Rather than get in a long winded explanation I can sum it up .A properly torqued threaded fastener will not back out .There are more failures from under torqued than over torqued fasteners .Then comes the old adage tight is tight too tight is broken .

I like my ZooCity 346 "Stitch Maker" better with the stock Zama than the 199. Tunes better and holds a tune well. Also just runs better overall. I think the 199 hype is a bit over rated if it is a work saw. Mine does have the 357 intake bits.

Mine's got the 346/353 Zama and the 357/359 intake boot and sleeve (along with a new OEM NE top end) and I think I'll leave it that way.

I've wondered if one of the older 034 carbs couldn't be fitted to the 346 like the early Tillotson that came on the 034 when it first came out -
those were really good carbs.

I have always had better luck with zama over walbro. Zamas tune much better and are less finicky in my experience.
