I personally won’t be cant racing, ever. I’m just doing it for fun at either gtg’s or chain build-offs, so I can’t always change gears.
I’ll run my leaned loop some and see what happens. I do have enough material to go back to a more vertical side plate if I feel a need. I’ve never ran any Solo let alone the 80cc version, so it’s sort of a crap shoot on that.

681 is like a strong 372, 394 is just a tank.

My first try at square filing. This is after trying and fuggin up 5 or 6 other teeth.....
Using a Stihl triangular file. Am I heading in the right direction with what you would want in a "play" chain? Criticism very welcome.... just a hack wantin to cut wood fast :D

Looks like your real close. Hard to see in the pics if the line meets the point. I couldn't get it with the triangle file and had to use the chisel bit file.
I don't know how you guys take such perfect looking pictures haha. Tried to take a few more with better lighting. They seem to be in line with each other.

Reviving this thread... Whats everyone's opinion on this Windsor 50AL chain? Worth it to try a race/play chain with? I really have the itch to make a fast chain and got this roll for free. Anyone wanna square grind a loop for me, I'd gladly trade a loop for your services.
QDS , put a cutter of the Windsor chisel up next to a Oregon 3/8 cutter for comparison.
Back in the early 1980's I heard some racers say the Windsor had a taller cutter, I never did get my hands on some to compare.

The cutters are Probly similar height. If anything the Windsor chassis might be smaller.

Unfortunately I have no Oregon 3/8 on hand at the moment, I'd gladly measure it for you if you have some oregon you can measure

Shoot I knew I had something to do today, Lol.
I measure some up tomorrow Stihl, Oregon 3/8 chisel.
Don't forget that new Oregon cutter has the VibeBan profile cutter with the thinner heel under the rear rivet hole, so that would make it lower in height.
The older Windsor chain doesn't have that feature.
I'll measure up some old NOS Oregon cutters without the VibeBan

Ok guys I guess what I heard about the Windsor chain being taller was just a fallacy.
Here's some #'s
The old Oregon non VibeBan 75CL is taller.

The newer 72LGX VibeBan (notice the one barb arrow between rivets) is close to the newest Oregon EXL cutter Dolekitafreak showed.

I like my 3/8 race chain without the VibeBan with equal material under both the heel and toe of the cutter.
All new .404 chain today is still old school for a reason, race chain should be no different.
Avoid Oregon VibeBan and Stihl Comfort with a C.

I have seen pictures of cutters with the gullet cleaned out at an angle and some 90 degrees, or blunt to the wood. I've done both and I cannot notice a difference. Has anyone else tried this? I'd like to think the angle would be better, but I'm unable to tell a difference in what I have to cut.
