D handle really helps, Steve, I have one on a 044-046 hybrid along with the big husky decomp but once it fires it kick that shut also, then it's one thump & pain, I guess some young Guy is going to have to own this.
I havn't tried my 372s or the 7900 Dolmer yet this year but I think They'l go.

You can back off the timing advance a bit to alleviate the mule kick. It'll still run good for ya.

Just did that.
Went out last weekend and saw started second pull, no problems.
Burned 1/2 tank of fuel. Sat asw down and did some stuff. Came back half hour later and it ripped the handle outta my hand.
Maybe I am just turning in to a pussy? LOL

If I don't slowly roll my Mofo 036 over until just past compression, it will probably pull the handle out of my hand.
Maybe a Husky decomp, D handle and some tweaks to your starting procedure?
Put the saw on the ground, stand on handle and use both hands if required.

My hands and wrists are pretty beat up from doing stupid things plus my job, so I figure I will be altering things by the time I'm in my late 50's. If not before.

You don’t necessarily loose a lot of “power” but you definitely loose “speed” with older folks. At least from what I noticed with a few friends that are older that use chainsaws. A quick confident pull with the saw at tdc is what helps you pull over saws with lots of compression and timing advance. The solution for older folks is less compression and less timing advance imo.

I'm creeping up on 55 come June, and me ol' body don't do some things nor heal near like it used to. I just gear it down a notch or two nowadays, lower the "how much I expect to get done today" a little, and everything seems to jive. Is what it is!

What's the difference between the Husky Big saw decomp valve and the one I have?
I'm assuming the bleeder hole?
On the husky decomps that are located in the side of the cylinder, the compression travels horizontally through a small passage before it gets to the compression release. They have a larger bleed hole than decomps that are meant to go directly above the combustion chamber

Lot's of good advice on this thread @toolmaker. I'm not thirty something anymore either so I can relate to the issues, pains, and excessive breaks as my better half puts it. You have come through some traumatic issues and are a survivor. Give thanks for that and keep pushing forward even if it is a slower pace my man. If you decide to go to Hawgdays GTG let me know I'll have a coffee with ya. I'm thinking you need a good shot of springtime like some of us on here!

Totally agree. More "speed" then flywheel will help overcome the compression. Learn that on the stihl 076. Mine doesn't came with decom from factory, need to brave up and pull fast to start. Pulling slow with LOTS of power is useless and end up with broken starter pawls.
Another interesting thing that come to my mind is stihl always kick more than husky, for stock saws. Even the small 026 will kick if pull half hearted, never kick from a 346. As well as 064 vs 288, 044 vs 372.

Please don't think I'm raging on ya Brother. Quite the opposite. Reading posts sometimes come off diff than a ftf conversation. I'm just saying there are lots of people that would trade with ya. Make the best of it Brother. Sorry if my post seemed harsh. Wasn't meant to be.

Those dolmars with that starter system are great for older people. You don’t need any speed to pull em over.
